The Mark Hoppus model, and the Squier Wentz model both use this tone circuit. (or lack there of) Volume pot only. Basically your highs are always rolled in. Good for pop punk. You could really do this with any P bass and just have a custom guard made that only has two holes instead of three. Then simply remove the tone pot from the circuit and make it volume only.

Still, I think the surf green as a basic color might be nice... Would be nicer if theyd tap Principe on the shoulder and took that bass to become a sig model, the guy always rolls his highs in.

As an aside...always bear in mind that not everything comes out of the Custom Shop. A great deal of modding happens after market, and often, by the techs who service and maintain an artist's gear. In this vein, a new bridge and vibrato system has been developed for the Jazzmaster/Jaguar guitars by such an individual, under the product name "Mastery Bridge". See the July issue of Premier Guitar magazine. Makes me think that this might have been the inspiration for Fender's new R&D bridge.

The Hoppus will give you that circuit and the Surf Green, but it's got a Jazz body. While the guy may deserve a sig model I don't know if Fender would want to replicate a model with such a limited appeal that they already have available at two price points. Specifically the price points that would appeal to punk fans.

The old model Hoppus has the traditional pup configuration and was available in Surf. I'm sure finding one for a steal wouldn't be hard.

As a matter of fact there's one on Reverb right now.

@chromeface: should've known there were SPB3's on em. Principe doesn't own the Roger Waters Sig for nothing.

@KoP: You make an excellent point, though I might as well start from scratch.

This being said.
First of all sorry for the slight thread derailment, I don't want to cause another pointless discussion like that 14 year old kid started way back. Yes it would be nice for Principe to get a sig model (but not for his RA work only, his 88 Finger Louie stuff is pretty hot, listen to 100 Proof), but that's not the point.

I still stand for a surf green P bass body as stock option with a volume only pup config, without sig stuff (which means no jazz body like mark hoppus or that hideous decal on the pete wentz).
SPB3s as stock, maybe a maple neck, black or tort pickguard, maybe even some gold hardware. Or black hardware... blackened tuners... hmmm.

And I still stand for a reissue of the prec lyte, I've been playing it since I picked up my '89 last saturday and despite what people said about the mid range, it has something that my Roger Waters sig misses every now and then.

to recap. sorry for the derailment, but I want a surf green P bass with SPB3s without tone control as a stock option with black or tort and without (direct) ties to a specific artist AND a reissue of the prec lyte series would be nice.

Don't worry about the derailment. It's all good. Only guitar players get testy about that and no one cares what they think anyhow. To be honest, I could see a very reasonably priced "Modern Player" P bass with some nice flashier finishes (like Surf, Shell Pink, maybe Candy Tangerine), a set of SD Quarter Pounders, a Bad $@! II or Fender High Mass bridge and the "no tone" option being a huge seller among the punk and younger market. Thick, Clanky, and Loud as hell. Seems like it would be a better seller than the two signature models out there. Hoppus' bass is interesting, but other than his fans I think the reverse pick up and no tone pot is a hard sell. Pete Wentz's bass just looks sad and unloved.

A Surf Green '57 American reissue with Fender Original ’57/’62 Strat pickups, an aged 8-hole pickguard, pup covers, and knobs, and a maple neck. Oh, yeah, a hardtail version. Wait, I made that.....

Hey all,Which discontinued Fender models would you like to see make a comeback...and why? Thanks everyone for your participation in the forums, as always!

My suggestion is the Old Fender 30, 30 watts all tube with tube rectifier, channel switching, and on board reverb. The only amp I ever had that I miss owning, it was the size of the Deluxe Reverb. I went out and bought my first Mesa Boogie a Mark II C+, and I gave that Fender 30 to my kid, and only God knows what he did with it. All I can say is; I would rather have that amp than any Boogie I ever owned. It was awesome......Light and as capable as anything I ever owned before or since.
