I went to see John Mayall yesterday. Both his guitarist and Guitar Shorty who played before them, used a black combo amp with all red knobs. I'm pretty sure it was a Fender. I just wondered what model it was since I don't see it as a current production amp. Both guitarists had massive gain.
Guitar Shorty did a version of the Star Spangled Banner, and that guitar was as hot as one could be.
John Mayall's guitarist, Rocky Anise, I'm not sure of the spelling, was equally impressive. In fact JM's whole band was like a well oiled machine, very tight.

That's the one. I didn't realize a Twin could sound so knarly. Neither of them had the typical Fender sound. Very gainy, closer to Marshal territory. Interesting, thanks.

No longer produced.

For those who crave for a comeback of those red knob amps:

It's similar to my Super 210, bought new in '90. There was also a 12 inch single variant - Super 112.

Goodonya ...Mark.

No, that's a common misunderstanding. It's its successor, the "Twin Amp" that Fender has referred to as the Evil Twin, not the red knob "The Twin".

So what is different about the red knob "The Twin" from a regular Twin Reverb amp?

A high gain channel, and an overdrive for the clean channel (and a bunch of other things).

The "Red Knob" amps are great. Sound awesome... and they're cool looking... funny how something as simple as the color of the knobs can give a distinct look and feel to a pretty much classic appearance.

True Dat. A friend of mine had a Princeton Chorus from that series that we used as a PA at many a living room concert and backyard BBQ...

Here's a question for those who may know;
Were some of the amps from this series Tube amps? I seem to recall that Princeton Chorus being a solid state (and that may be wrong, too), but I seem to (murkily) recall seeing some tube amps with the red knob/charcoal grey speaker cloth accruements...am I wrong, and did Jose Cuervo lie to me about yet ANOTHER THING in that era in my life?

Yes they did. I have a super 60 and a super 112 (same amp in two different sized cabinets) and they are both 6L6's.

But were some of these solid state as well?
