'Bout 10 pounds..

Bad joke, I know. It's an old one I remember from my childhood. Of course later that fact was corrected by a little kid in Jerry McGuire.

Yesterday, I found my scale. I've been wondering how much my new amps weigh. And so, I just had to find out. I had a feeling (in my back) that they were up there.

The HEAD weighs 63-lbs. By comparison, the Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 weighs 50-lbs.

The Heidkamp has a strap on top AND two side handles. That should tell you something already.

There you have it. An 85-lb. future doctor visit. That's more than half my own body weight... Still worth it.

Ha - mine too! On the plus side, we both must have an absolutely ideal Body Mass Index. :)

My Marshall TSL combo weighs 30.5 kg / 67 lbs. Well, that's what the spec sheet says. I would have sworn it was more.

So. Perfect BMI... but wrecked lower spine. :(

Cheers - C

Weight was a major factor when I bought an amp recently. I decided to go with a head and cab since I wanted 2x12's and a combo would have been too much for my 175# frame. My Egnator Renegade head is 43#. The 2x12 cab is about 30# and the 1x12 cab is about 25#. I haven't actually weighed the cabs, I'm going by what the builder told me plus the speakers I put in. I have to make extra trips to get everything in, but it's better than that one wrong lift trying to get a 2x12 combo into the back seat of my truck.

The Heidkamp will most likely be for studio work only. Maybe a big show here and there just to show off a little. I would definitely consider the H&K for shows. I have a Carvin 2x12 cab for it, and it has 6-channels that are all very good and usable. For the most part though, gigs are for the Roland JC50. It can't possibly weigh over 30 lbs.

This will be my next studio visit when the time comes.

Can't wait to stroll in with these amps. Leave your plugins alone, I come packing my own heat.

I could have swore the DeVille weighed more than 50-lbs. Maybe that could be what the newer amps do. Back in the 90's I had a Peavey Ultra 120 head that felt as heavy as the H&K. I blew that one up.

There aren't too many amps I'd risk my back over, but I'm cool with those two. I'd like to eventually save up for the newer version of the Triamp. I'm a big believer in Hughes & Kettner and what they're doing right now. I could do without the flashy lights, but I really like what I'm hearing out of the Triamp and it's versatility.

My self-imposed limit is 55#. It can be a combo, or a head and cab that weigh 55# each, but these OLD bones and muscles bulk at anything more. Actually, that restriction still leaves many, many great options.

Once I get settled into my new place, I'm going to do some experimenting with this little guy.

Not sure how many people have seen these. It's a powered speaker by Yamaha. It's made to run off of multi effects or pedal boards. What I like about it is that you can turn the eq on or off. So you can choose whether to manipulate what's going into it or not. I can also run my JC into it and have a 2x12 setup. I paid $65 for it.

For live shows, I typically use lightweight amps and pedals. This runs about 25 lbs. I've always liked Yamaha products. Great amp for acoustic/electric guitars too.

I wonder how much this head weighs?
