I've never owned a signature model. I buy basses based on their specs. The only bassists that play basses that I like the specs on as sig models have their basses made off shore and with incorrect specs to the models they actually play. (Duck Dunn old CIJ 57RI and Sting's CIJ 53) So I don't think someone's signature would stop me from buying a bass if I liked the combination of specs and features on it. However, I certainly would never buy a bass for a signature on the headstock, or neckplate. That being said, I've yet to see one that is exactly what I'd want. Some come close, but just not quite there. So paying extra for something I'm not going be completely happy with seems silly. If I'm going to do that I'll just go to the CS and get my own "signature model" made. Which I'm getting close to doing.

Settle down to a 'long winters nap' for that one, mate.

Hahhah. It's coming I think. I've got the specs done, and submitted. It'll depend on the quote and what I might need to tweak before committing. The saddest thing is that what I want wouldn't be that much of a stretch at all. Hopefully it comes in under the "team build" criteria. I don't see why it wouldn't. It's basically all first generation P specs with a couple of minor tweaks and niceties. Nothing crazy at all. I've been waiting a decade for an American Vintage 51, 53 or 55 Precision. Fender seems bound and determined not to make that happen. It's either import compromises or the Custom Shop. So if I'm going to pay Custom Shop prices anyhow. Why not go all in, right? So that's where I'm at. However, I've waited this long. I'm in no real rush. :?

I don't care much for Miley to have an Artist Signature endorsement, especially after the VMA Awards fiasco.

Honestly... I'm particularly displeased for the nasty tongue twerking show she did with Robin Thicke. :x Therefore I wouldn't be surprised for the naughtiness which characterizes that bad girl.... :|

She ruined her reputation as a talented musician. :(

P.S. It's just a personal point of view.

She's been on that downward slide for years now. There's something about today's audiences that leads management to steer artists in that direction. It's a pathetic commentary on both sides.

There are many famous hot babes who forged their reputation as serious Strat slingers: Jess Lewis, Chantel McGregor, Kelly Richey to name a few.

IMHO Jess deserves a Hollow Sonic signature Strat.

She pulled a "Gwen Stefani". Not that I really cared for the pop-punk thing, but at least it wasn't musically grating. Avril started out as a manufactured female answer to the 3rd generation pop punk movement. (Blink, Green Day, Good Charlotte, ect) My girl used to listen to all those bands when we first started dating. Avril's sophomore album had some nice musicianship and dark spots. Actual songwriting. (Not sure if it was hers, but...)

However, much like Gwen before her when she left her initial band and inspiration behind and got more involved with the "industry" side of things her music took a really nasty slide toward unlistenable garbage. Oddly enough, these moves also coincided with break ups with their significant others who were in the scenes surrounding their early music.

Stefani's break up with her bassist and her subsequent relationship and eventual marriage to Gavin Rossdale of Bush. (Listen to Return to Saturn by No Doubt. It has much more in common with Stefani's solo work than it does with an actual No Doubt album). In Avril's case her break up with Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 kind of seemed like a severing of her roots and the scene that they both came up in. And her moving on to more "mainstream" industry focus. Both women did this and both their new partners (Kroger of Nickelback for Lavigne  ) are keen on that world.

That's not to imply an nefarious dealings. I'm sure this is the path that both women controlled and wanted. However, both of their music has suffered immensely for it.

I'd love to see Fender re-introduce the Hank William signature Strat again. It looked great and sounded great, as well. Boy, I'd shell out anything to have one of those! Also, I'd love to see a Buddy Holly signature Strat. I mean, come on Fender, he was one of the first Strat players. Yes, it would be almost similar to an American Standard but it could still retain the 3-way selector switch popular in the 50s Strats, I guess. That would give it some uniqueness. :)

I'm right there with you on the Buddy Holly strat. I'd be interested.

I'd also like to see a John Frusciante strat based on the 1962 sunburst with rosewood fingerboard. Something with similar specs and Seymour Duncan SSL-1's already installed. I think I read somewhere that he's not interested in doing a signature model, but maybe they should just throw more money at him. It should come standard with one sock.

I like the idea behind signature strats. It makes it easy for a new or casual buyer who only has a fuzzy idea about the specs he wants to get the guitar he wants. Enough for me. I could do without gaudy signatures though. Just an engraved neck plate is perfect.

There are a lot of artists who would rather not have a signature model, Fruciante being one of them. Trouble is, younger generations can't even recognise some of the current endorsees and the list of them hasn't changed a lot in the last 15 years.. a lot of the modern endorsees have Squier signatures, and the older ones have usa fender signature models. No wonder the kids play other brands

Time to bring some new models and endorsees :)

WW2 strat, eh? i know what you mean, but the reference was too good to pass up.
The B-52 Stratofortress was commissioned at the end of WW2, but didn't make its appearance until a few years later, just in time to influence Leo Fender's naming his guitar.

That's not a bad idea. A Stratofortress Stratocaster. It would feature an aluminum pickguard and tuning machines, and of course an Atomic Humbucker. Market it along with the Vaporizer.

I agree. I think I know more than the average person about music but I see the list of artist series guitars and there are way too many names I have to look up.
