Finally sold my house I was trapped in for years, and made a nice piece o' change to boot. Looking at moving into a 1 bedroom apt. for 6 months.
Can anyone recommend headphones, hopefully wireless? Hoping for light weight, expansive sound and non-sweaty.
How do you cope with noise in a situation where it is not welcome?
Thanks.

If it's just you, and you're not going to use them with a mic, I'd go with a pair of open back headphones. They leak sound, but you don't get the clammy feeling, and many think they just overall sound better.

I wouldn't use wireless, though - I've had a couple, and have never been impressed. Not only does the sound suffer, but they tend to drop out every now and then. If you can deal with a 18.6' guitar cable, you can deal with a long headphone cable too. You can even velcro strip them together.

My advice is to buy used headphones and new pads. Not because of costs, but because of quality.
Personally, I love Grado headphones, with RS-1 being the favorite - I'd take an RS-1 or RS-2 over the newer models any day.
And the good old Sennheiser HD-414 with bright yellow pads. They have the advantage of being near indestructible, and if the wire snags, it just pops out of the socket on the headphone end.
And Sennheiser still sell replacement pads for them, 40 years later.

If you don't want to go the used route, both Grado and Sennheiser has good cans, but so do a lot of other manufacturers. AKG is liked by many - good bass response make them usable on amps.

You might want to forgo using an amp altogether. Vox has several headphone amp-on-a-stick devices that does amp modeling, and you simply plug it into the guitar, and headphones into the stick. They're not for me, but some like them because of the freedom to move around without being fettered to an amp.

Arth- thanks for the sound advice. Makes and model numbers noted.

I'd like to move into another house. But I'd like to pay cash if I can. I just dumped about 200K in debt. What a feeling. Looking at apts today, the idea of reducing my life to about 600 sq ft seems very attractive. But unless one is moving air with a 12" speaker, its just not the same.
I'd love a small house on a large lot. The house that Katherine Ross had in Butch and Sundance would be ideal. A 25 y.o. Katherine would be nice too. Leigh Taylor Young. Blair Brown.. I'm not choosey.
When my father died, he left behind lots of art supplies and books on painting, but he never painted any works. I play more guitar than he ever painted. But, time is running out. I'm 65 and still doing construction. This sucks.
My awesome gf just bought a dream house in Scottsdale, but i cant exersize or play here in the gated community shes in now. First world problem, i guess.
I've just taken the low lying fruit all my working life, the phone would ring and I'd go out and come home 300 dollars richer. I'm gonna use the cash I got from the sale to start a single trade, more focussed business. I'm on my last roll of the dice.

Yeah, I have one of those Vox guitar jack amp thingies. I don't much care for it either, though I mess with it now and again.

But sometimes I plug into my little Boss BR Micro, pop that in my pocket and go strolling off around the house, into the garden, wherever the mood takes me, strummin' as I go. Silly, but the freedom of it is quite good fun. :)

I also have some cordless headphones someone gave me years and years ago. Vivanco, I think the brand is called. Not the most wonderful sound quality in history but perfectly serviceable. It's sometimes nice to wander from room to room listening to the hi-fi or the radio or whatever. But I wouldn't quite see the point of using them with the guitar, assuming you're still tied to the amp by the lead.

Better to spend the available cash on the finest quality regular headphones for the money, I'd say. For me that means AKG for hi-fi, good ol' Beyer Dynamic DT-100s for instruments. Ma-a-a-any other fine options to choose from.

Cheers - C

I have a Boss tuner that has a headphone amp - but it doesn't really sound like much like an amp would - it's rather meh. I trust your recorder has a better amp than the Boss tuner does!

However, sometimes headphones aren't needed - just being able to play at low volume, away from outlets, like when I sit in the back yard. I got an Orange CR-3 micro amp for that, which isn't all that bad, because it can be used on low volume without headphones and still give me some overdrive. It's certainly better than the micro amps from Fender and Marshall, which are really toys. The Orange is more like an evil cousin of Pignose. Neither will give you much bass, of course, which keeps the neighbors from killing me.

Fully agreed. A good pair of cans or two is nice to have.

Looks like you have some good suggestions Mr. T.. I haven't used headphones since the mid 80's so no suggestions here. Cool story to accompany your question. As long as you have your wits about you and hands you can roll as long as you keep breathing lol.

The Yamaha THR's have been pretty heavily marketed for this kind of thing.
