Here's one of my favorite Cocker songs covered by Paul Carrack and Eric Clapton:

...and an original live version from that song back in the early 1980s!

I always liked Joe Cocker, they had the 45 with "Cry Me a River" on the jukebox at our neighbourhood hangout- a Chinese restaurant owned by my friends' parents-and "Cry Me a River" was played many times during the hours it was open.It was when I saw the movie "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" that I really got a bigger appreciation of him, even though the movie did poorly at the box office,it succeeded in putting Joe on a pedestal for me.Joe's gravelly voice is one of the most soulful to have ever been put to record.

Happy 70th Joe!!!!

+1

I remember seeing Joe and friends at the Fillmore in '69, one of the last concerts I attended before I was drafted. Great show! He had Leon Russell with him and they opened with most of their recorded-to-date repertoire of hits (Jefferson Airplane was the headliner).

Toss back a few cold ones, Joe!

Shame that the audio is so terrible it will destroy everyone's spreakers. This one is much better -

Wow--he's getting old.

Certainly a very soulful & expressive singer.

Happy Birthday!

At the ARMS benfefit for Ronnie Lane I saw Clapton do an amazing version of "You Are So Beautiful" with Joe Cocker. Jimmy Page's instrumental version of "Stairway to Heaven" was a standout moment that night as well. Jeff Beck was there, too. Amazing.

If my wife finds out that you put me on a pedestal she's gonna hand me the Swiffer and insist that I dust all the light fixtures.

Not to mention this amazing electric blues medley EC did with his '58 Korina Explorer.

Here's the same blues medley played with Blackie. December 2th, 1983.

Always like some of Joe's work. His versions of 'Unchain My Heart' and 'The Letter' were pretty cool.
