I've recently purchase A Fender Ramparte amp. I love it! 9 watts...Who could ask for more. Because there aren't any tone controls, I employ a Boss graphic eq to dial in the tone. It all sounds perfectly well. The only problem I have is that there is a low level, ever present hum the minute I turn on the amp and the tubes warm up. There isn't any instrument or effect plugged in concurrently. As I said, I turn on the amp, a few seconds goes by and then the hum. By the way, the two volume pots are both turned down. Is this the natural state for the Ramparte or is there something to be corrected. Please let me know and thank you for your assistance and advice.

Hum after warm up ;

1- Tubes
2-Poor filtering
3- House electrical ; no ground on wall outlet , noise by neon light , cell phone , PC , Halogen ?

Try on another house

NOTHING SHOULD BE PLUG IN THE AMP

I can't find schematic .

Fellow Ramparte owner here...

Yes, I do notice some hum in that situation but it's very low and not noticeable if I'm more than about 8 feet away from the amp, or if there's any other background noise in my living room. It's definitely below the noise floor of any of my guitars. Not a problem for me but your mileage may vary.

Thank you all for your replies. As I suspected, that seems to be the state of affairs with this amp. I have heard another Ramparte and it's easily as noisy as mine is. As far as the noise factor and gigging is concerned, in the small to moderate clubs that I play it is not a significant problem at all. It is one of Fender's less costly amplifiers so if there is a manufacturing shortcoming or two, I understand. What attracted me to the amp was its simplicity. After all the amp configurations I've had in my years of doing electric music, I was intrigued. As I had mentioned previously, I use a Boss graphic eq to dial in the tone. It sounds fine. Now I know some of the boutique manufacturers make simple, straight ahead amps; but, they cost a fortune! Again, thanks for your help.

There is a guy on Ebay talking about this.

RAT Hotrod Fender Ramparte - Ebay (French)

Quote:
(3) A Design Error on the Main PCB has caused an 'Earth Loop' in the Circuit, which is responsible for most of the Buzz and Hum in the Amp. Unbelievable in a Fender Amp and totally unacceptable. Fender know there is a problem because they have made a 'Half-Ass' effort to correct it by cutting PCB Tracks here and there and adding lengths of wire to the Board, with no success. It took awhile to Find the Error, but I found it and corrected it.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I do hear the hum. He also lists a bunch of other mods.

I'm wondering if there is a warranty repair for this noise issue since some people have seemed to find moving the power supply transformer reduces the hum greatly. The hum was not noticeable in the store because of the backround noise, but at home, or studio, or small club gig it is terrible. I'm not willing to modify this myself, and would opt to sell this and trade for something else if Fender doesn't step up and fix this.

Do you have a UPS for your computer (battery backup/uninterrupted power supply)?

If so, try plugging the amp into it, that would rule out issues with the wiring in the house if it still hums.

I wonder if those will be in production for much longer. I've been seeing a lot of them for sale lately on Craig's List. I'm guessing there's a lot of people who don't care for them or am I wrong on this ?

A cheap UPS with a non-sine wave AC output will make it sound even worse.

Yes, if you plug it into a low-quality UPS, YMMV. Good point.

I also bought a new Fender Pawn Shop Series Ramparte Amplifier four (4) days ago. I had the same issue - loud humming/buzzing, even with both volume knobs at the fully counter-clockwise position (OFF)!, and no guitar connected! I decided to go "low-tech". I purchased (for $9.99 + Tax) a new Best Buy Insignia AC Power Cable "for desktop PC's and other AC powered devices", and... voila! The humming/buzzing noise was reduced to a very, very LOW, LOW level! :o !UNBELIEVEABLE! TOO EASY! Note that even though the made for Best Buy AC Cable I purchased was also "made in China", it appears that Best Buy verified that it was up to USA specifications - imagine that...
It's not the "end-all" solution, but it's a start! :D What needs/should happen is for the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation to fess-up and step-up! - correct this noise factor issue on their "dime".

Hi all,
I have purchased 2 weeks ago, 3 months old used ramparte and I was so disappointed from noise level - buzz/hum. I read several posts on different forums and learned that this is a common problem to this amp. Luckily I’m building guitar tube amps myself as a hobby so I have decided to investigate this problem to eventually fix it...
To make story short and to the point - 90% of hum/buzz was eliminated by replacing output transformer in my Case. Now amp is almost quiet.
I suspect that remaining hum level could be further eliminated by replacing power transformer, but at this moment I’m OK.

regards
