+1 on the GFS and the Joyo stuff. The GFS Brownie is also an original circuit Rat. Has the magic LM308 chip taboot. They got one resistor value wrong but you can basically remove the back and piggy back a resistor to the existing one and viola you have an original circuit Rat with the Magic Chip for about 50 bucks. I have the Joyo Ultimate Drive, paid 37 bucks for it and its solid. My favorite pedal. Getting the Sweet Baby next. I love these pedals. They’re great inexpensive solutions so I can see what I like without breaking the bank. If they suck… I have a project box for a build if I wish but so far haven’t needed to.

This one? I have it on long term loan from a non-guitar playing friend. I have only messed with it a little bit.

Thanks for all the input, but man it makes it hard to decide with so many good options. There wasn't much back in the day, and good pedals went for a song when PCBed SS amps came along. Little did we know..........................

If I keep sleepin' on it the sales will vanish.

Go to a well-stocked shop with your guitar in hand and take several pedals for a test drive. The one that gets the job done for you will become apparent.

I usually use a Tube Screamer but I recently bought an EHX Soul Food. Excellent overdrive for cheap; includes power supply. Supposedly it was designed to emulate the Klon Centaur. I have never owned one or even played through one so I cannot testify whether or not it is a Klon klone, but it's a great OD in any case.

Yep, that's the one. They're not exactly the "classic" TS sound (contrary to the label on the pedal), but they aren't bad at all. Personally, I like the TS9 better, due to the smootherand richer tone. The TS10 is slightly harsher and brighter.

An A/B comparison would be a good thing, but alas, I sold the TS10 long ago to finance another purchase.

I read an article or post or something (?) quoting Rene Martinez (SRV's guitar tech and compatriot in equipment and tone) stating that after an equipment theft incident in he mid80's, SRV used a TS10 exclusively, not a TS9 or TS808 as used in his early days.

I don't know if that's true or not, but listening to SRV's 1983 performance on Austin City Limits vs. his 1989 performance on the same program, there is a little harder edge to SRV's tone and sound in the latter--that was probably due to more factors than one pedal (he was using a very different amp configuration on the 1989 performance), but the change from TS808 or TS9 to TS10 might be a contributing factor.

While trying to decide what OD pedal to try, I ran across this for the price of a pizza. (Not a frozen pizza) I'm surprised how good it sounds. It's got some mid boost which is good for amps with scooped mids. Tweeds, it has kind of a MK - "Industrial Disease-ish" tone. Pretty cool pedal. Anyone else have one of these?

Delta Lab was the store brand for Guitar Center / Musician's Friend. Unfortunately, this line of pedals was discontinued. They ran $50 to $60 each. I have the Stereo Chorus which is pretty good also. I guess GC/MF figured out it wasn't a good idea to compete with its suppliers.

Love love love love love love love the Soul Food. I also like the Sweet Baby Overdrive but it doesn't like all of my guitars and the MXR Super Badass distortion is amazingly versatile.

I have have an Ibanez TS808HW on my pedal board. I use it with my Marshall DHL 15. Best overdrive I've ever owned.

I've used a lot of different pedals but if I could only own one it would be a Boss Blues Driver.
:D :D :D :D

I really like the Fulltone OCD and have been using it for several years but lately I've been using the Mesa FluxDrive quite a bit. It's darker and deeper than the OCD but I don't care for it at high gain settings. Gets too muddy. With the gain set at around 9 o'clock it's a very useful tone.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

2 weeks and this pedal crapped out on me. I ended up getting a BD-2 and will do some mods to it. Maybe the Galaxy mod if he sells just the mod kit.

Well, it lasted longer than a pizza! I've been lucky, the first pedal I bought in the late '70's still works. I don't use it, because it sounds like caca. But it still works. :D
