Checking out Austin City Limits with Jack White and he's rocking! On a lot of songs he's playing a Tele with some kind of extra binding or something on the top. Anyone know what it is? Kinda looks like a noseguard on an 80's skateboard. Is it to keep it from getting prematurely relic'ed up top?

+1 lol

I have seen these around the internet. They are made to protect the guitar.

That's exactly what I need, the squared-off edge of my edgebound Tele is pretty uncomfortable after an hour or so. Anyone got a link where I can buy these?

Variax guitars (except the Tyler variants) do not have any pickup fitted in. The controls are used to drive the built-in modeling transducer.

Yep! Now one can purchase a relic'd Tele and protect it's de-finish.

One would certainly want to keep his relic instrument in mint condition.

Surely that tele one pictured doesn't solve the problem? Fitting that doesn't get rid of the squared off edge of the body, which is the culprit. I would have thought it needs to wrap round the sharp edge.

I too have the same issue with Tele's However, apparently there was one such, produced by Fender in '58. It was posted by the Fender Fanatics group on Facebook. It has vintage Strat contours and and 'offset waist' cut.

Don't see the sense of 'protecting' the finish with screws to afix the barrier to the guitar.
