H R Giger a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and set designer has passed on. One of my favorite modern artists since seeing his work on the science fiction movie Alien. He designed two signature guitars and a bass guitar for Ibanez one of them, a stratocaster clone, I had the opportunity to play at The Chicago Music Exchange. That guitar became my favorite Ibanez guitar of them all: Image
You are missed H R, hope that you find the happy hunting ground to your liking.

Yeah I read he'd died after a fall. I agree the alien "aliens" from that series of movies were some of the scariest of all time especially considering the first was 1979.

RIP HRG a creative mind for sure.

He was one of the greatest modern artists.
His creations spanned much more than painting, sculpture, set designs.
Often referred to in pop culture, especially in science fiction and cyberpunk, he was a great influence on tattoo artists.
He won an Academy Award for Alien and was inducted in the Science Fiction & Fantasy Hall Of Fame in 2013.
He was involved in movie making on his own right, he did interior design & architecture...
Always close to the rock world, he did a myriad of projects, from stage designs (Mylene Farmer), mike stands (Korn), album covers and inserts (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Celtic Frost, Carcass, Atrocity, Blondie, Dead Kennedys, Danzig...), the Ibanez series of guitars (http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/Category:H ... ger_models)...
And plenty more.
Truly a Renaissance type of artist, he left too soon, with plenty more still unsaid.
12th of May was a day when art died.
Rest In Peace!
