Perfect.

What I have often wondered is how you could tell if a relic'd guitar is in mint condition or if it had been played for a few years.Someone could conceivably sell a relic'd guitar to an unsuspecting buyer getting a high price by claiming that it hadn't been played and get top dollar for a guitar he had been using for years. This whole relic'd guitar issue has opened a whole new can of worms.

Taking that one step further, someone could conceivably see a very used guitar as a "like new" "relic."

Check the frets. The new relics usually have new frets.

Be sure to get the cash before you take a hammer to it!

Truly sound advice. I could just see myself chipping paint off and then the buyer says, "Never mind".

I'd probably have to start relic'ing my guitar on his head.

Or wire up his "junk" to the B+ supply of a Super Reverb.

I just can’t wrap my head around the cost increase for taking a belt sander to such a nice guitar.

The NOS version is up on the Sweetwater site for around $2500

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Strat60AV54?

While the POS version goes for around $4800

It’s a free country so if you have the loot have at it. I just don’t get the enormous price gouge to get the gouges of the 600th anniversary look

I have to admire the skill involved to reproduce the aging of antiques. It's a true art form when well done. There's a bit more to it than hammers and belt sanders.

Art form notwithstanding....the fret board wear hardly looks like the real deal.

more power to you guys that like new guitars that are all scratched up. It's not for me though.

It's great if you like them, but I wouldn't want a pre-relic guitar. I personally try to keep my guitars in the best shape that I can. When the inevitable nick or scratch occurs, it's oftentimes associated with some memory of a practice session or what not, and in some weird way, it sort of strengthens my attachment to the instrument. The pre-relic just feels a bit like cheating in a way. Plus, in many cases, it just doesn't look all that good.
