Unfortunately, no, they don't. I've walked away from two Fenders because they didn't sell them without fake wear. One was a rather expensive Esquire, which I would have bought if it hadn't been for someone at Fender having damaged it.

Personally I can't stand them. I'll relic my guitar through heavy usage, not by purposely beating, scratching and freezing it etc...

Nay... nor would I buy a pair of jeans that are made with holes already in them. I guess I'm old fashion. To pay for someone to have made something appear like that which occurs naturally, from use or wear, does not seem logical..:?

Oop's. maybe if we in those circumstances, ask for a discount for the cost to repair them Market research might even things up a bit, something resembling the dead parrot sketch comes to mind though.

I guess the market speaks much louder than this forum. Folks with lots a spare change mush love the relics because the custom shop keeps making them.

Anyone with the slightest hint of business knowledge will tell you, "you have to give the customer what they want". Assuming you want to stay in business.

Personally I can't make any sense out of relics. But if I was selling my guitar and someone offered an extra $1000 to bang it up I would be more than happy to oblige.

Be sure to get the cash before you take a hammer to it!

Some of the people here are hysterical. Looking down their nose at people who buy relics while lining up for crap like rolled fingerboard edges and paying extra for it. You know, instead of just "rolling their own".

I pay a luthier to roll my fretboard edges -- does that make me "hysterical"?

You mean dress your frets, or actually take wood off the sides of your fretboard? As in the wood. If you mean take wood off your fretboard to give the neck a feel you like and then you turn around and take shots at people who pay luthiers to take finish off their guitar to give it a feel they like. Then, yeah. That makes you absolutely hysterical.

The car analogies are ridiculous.

Now everyone scramble to change your story as to why this relic would be nice to own.

I'm not a fan of relic'd at all. If I have a guitar that is scratched & nicked, I want it scratched & nicked by me through years of use. That gives it true character from my own hand.
