No - not thin guitar strings.

I noticed that if I hold a slinky by one end and let it hang the coils get progressively closer as it goes down. So I held it up to a fretboard. The alignment was very close.

So does this mean that you'll be using a Slinky for making frets for a guitar build or as a template for fret spacing?

Yes, yes it does.

Apparently some folks don't know what a slinky is.

Get one of those, hold one end and let the other end drop. Let it settle and, voila, there's your fret scale.

:P

Logarithms rediscovered, news at eleven.

Would it blow your mind if I said that you could use the guitar and a slinky to perform calculations?

I noticed that it goes down stairs, alone or in pairs, and makes a slinkety sound. It's also fun for a girl or a boy, and for fun it's a wonderful toy.

The problem as i see it is...............

my slinky is the miniture version which gets frightened when it sees stairs and so means a fretboard made to its dimensions will be about 8 inches long

I know what a slinky is...I had never heard this method of measuring out the proper scale for a guitar. Does this really work?

Interesting.
