That's the first I have heard of Prehispanic Prog Rock. Very nice.

There was a lot going on. I was thinking I'd like to hear that stretched out to appreciate all of the different things. I'll have to check out the other videos.

I was reminded of the early solo albums of Patrick Moraz in terms of the Latin/South American percussion, but of course he was keyboard dominated.

Same here - I thought prehispanic would mean that it was prog rock from before any Hispanic influence, and thus free of it. I'm still confused about what the "pre" means in this context. Is it supposed to be Hispanic Pre-prog Rock?

Hi. "Prehispanic" refers to the ethnic instruments I'm playing here. There is a music genre called "Prehispanic Music" and is performed only with ethnic instruments, built before the Spanish conquest, I mean, instruments from Aztec (Mexica) and Mayan cultures. These are no latin instruments, even the names are in Nahuatl (aztec language) and Maya like Huehuetl (the drum), Pu'ul (that percussion in the shape of a "earthen pot"), Ayacaxtli, Teponaztli, etc. I mixed that genre of music with Prog Rock.

Thanks for your point, very interesting comment. Have a great day!

Everything Arjay said!

It was a complex piece but not complicated to the ear. Not sure if that's clear but rest assured it is meant as a complement.

Lot's going on in this piece Juan, and nothing out of place, that's a talent in itself IMO, great track, thanks for posting.
On a side note, that little turtle you played got me thinking about The Aztec's, Mayan's and music , and how many other little animals had the wind blown up them, just to get a tune out of them  couldn't have been a lot of fun for them I'm thinking eh?
They say it may have been drought that became the downfall of these civilisations, I'm thinking all the animals done a runner as soon as they got wind of what was going on  , pardon the pun :)

LOL, that's fine. Nice to read you, ripitup, long time. Yes, archaeologists speculate about the fall of Teotihuacan and Maya empires blaming deforestation/drought caused by the construction of giant pyramids. The Mexica culture (Aztecs) was destroyed by the Spanish conquest.

Archaeologists have found clay and wood musical instruments and some scholars on the topic have build them today. Ocarinas and Flutes are hard to play cause they don't have the occidental tuning. They used all the shapes they knew cause it seems to be used for their ritual stuff.

I performed 14 prehispanic instruments here, from Mayan Hom-Pax (the horn at the beginning), to ocarinas (clay flutes) and aztec percussions like Huehuetl, Teponatztli, Ayacaxtli, and Mayan drum called Pu'ul.

Thanks for your kind comment and have a great day!

You do this well.

You compile old sounds with the new. It takes a talented person to play an instrument, but it also takes a talented person to apply that with modern day music equipment. One of these days I would like to visit you in your beautiful Mexico.

Great job my friend . . . will talk to you on FB!
