Been there....done that. You're not the first, nor will be the last.

How can anybody not love John Mayer's The Black One? Yes it may be too recent for many peoples liking but that stratocaster has always brought a smile to my face!

My personal "all time favorite" out of the dozens of Strats I have owned over the years was an early 70's hardtail, natural finish, maple neck. For some reason I have not found another strat of any year or model with quite the same sound and feel that worked for me so well. Now what I don't remember is if I had changed out the pickups or not. I recall the first things we did with those 70s strats was to slap in Dimarzios (or worse what many many did was route in a humbucker)......particularly in the bridge position if anything.

And what did I do with the original pickups? Not having any idea they were going to be worth anything threw them away or gave them away (smacks myself).

Some Stratocasters sound better than others, but I can honestly say I've loved every one I've heard, clean or distorted. A Strat ran through a clean channel sounds better than any acoustic guitar out there, imo.

I'm gonna go with the Jimmie Vaughan signature as being the best of the bunch.

I'll bite.

1992, Maui Blue, fat body, thin neck, vintage frets, extremely flat radius, round, but thin neck, I don't have any idea of what this neck shape is, I've never felt it before.
