This could be the best news I've seen all year. Wilko's cancer is (was?) a rare form of pancreatic cancer which has been removed during pioneering surgery.

Ha, now that really is good news! :D

On the telly last night they were giving the survival rate for pancreatic cancer as low as one or two percent, so Wilko has massively bucked the odds.

Most inspiring of all is the sheer bravery and cool and style with which he's conducted himself throughout this whole saga. Fans and people who'd never even heard of him before alike have been amazed and impressed with the way he's handled the entire thing. A genuine role model.

Personally, I think the numbers he recently recorded with Roger Daltrey are pretty good, too. Worth a listen.

Cheers - C

  he has just dodged a bullet, or a magazine full. Unbelievable. I was wondering about him the other day and whether he was still alive. So, does this mean he has the 'all clear'?

I hope so. Then it would be time to see him rebound back & fourth on stage with his trademark Tele and springy coil cord :D lol

That is very good news if its true, in the sense of the treatment being successful I mean.
I was listening to him on Radio 2 last sunday and he was obviously pleased he was still alive but he was sure the outcome was going to be the same ... but im not sure when it was recorded.

Fingers crossed for the guy,his ongoing struggle will last a long time im sure.
Like Ceri says his plight and courage has brought him to the attention of many people.

"He has now had the "football-size tumour" removed as well as his pancreas, spleen and part of his stomach.
[...]
The operation also involved the removal of Johnson's small and large intestines and the removal and reconstruction of blood vessels relating to the liver, Parsons reported.
"

How is it possible to live without intestines? All nourishment through IV?

Anyhow, he can sing "I'm not half the man I used to be".

You'd be surprised how much of your body can be removed and still allow you to live. People with Crohn's disease often have bowel resections and they survive, I guess he's in for a long period of recovery now. And a lot of morphine. Best wishes to you Wilko.

sorry to be a little 'graphic' but the waste empties directly into a bag that is strapped on. I used to sell the bags, and related supplies. Nourishment isn't as much of a problem as elimination is.

Interview with Wilko before the surgery ...

http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/comment/ar ... -interview

I just realised that with his pancreas removed he'll now have Type 1 diabetes. It's going to be a long road to recovery for Wilko but I'm really happy he's got a reprieve.

Lady Armadillo had a section of her small intestine removed due to strangulation caused by endometriosis about six years ago. She has a few lingering issues, one of which is nutritional; her body no longer absorbs Vitamin B from her food, so she takes supplements.

The other issues are harder to deal with, but fortunately she doesn't have to deal with a colostomy bag.

He hasn't dodged a bullet. it's just arriving more slowly. And with a lot less quality of life he's enjoyed up til now.

On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everything is zero.

WILKO LATEST - OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

Doctors caring for Wilko at Addenbrooke's Hospital have said they are extremely pleased with the way he has recovered post op despite the magnitude and complexity of his nine hour operation.

Wilko has been complication free so far and has made what they describe as 'rapid progress'. Although still early days in his recovery, doctors are very encouraged by the extent of his progress.

As always, Wilko, his family and friends thank everyone for their well wishes and support at this time.
