Hoping someone can help me out...

When my Tele is plugged directly into the amp I get the legendary Tele hum. When I go through my pedal board and everything is off it is a little louder. When I turn on my overdrives it increases substantially. I am assuming it is 60 cycle hum. (It has always been there and every Tele I have ever owned does it...but now its really bugging me)

edit: when the guitar is removed from the chain the hum goes away.

I have read up on both of Ebtech's products Hum-X and the Hum Eliminator (this seems more like a DI box)...what are the different uses for these products or are they the same thing?

After learning about the Ebtech Hum X and the Hum Eliminator I called Ebtech but they said that their products wont eliminate this....BUT I have read people recommending their product...whats the word here? What works to eliminate this humming?

Thanks

I guess I've been fortunate, because I've never had to suffer through an extremely noisy guitar--and three of my guitars have P-90's in them, which are notoriously buzzy!

--Have a tech check on the grounding of the guitar.

--is the noise present anywhere you play, or only in specific locations? ("dirty" power or other equipment causing interference can be a culprit, too).

So sorry to hear about your issue.

One thing that I own/use/love is the big blue Rocktron HUSH pedal--cuts out any noisy from my signal chain, room interference (such as neon signs), harp mic, etc. It's an excellent "silent partner"

After testing everything I can think of I found that its only louder than normal in my apartment...

The guys at Ebtech (great people) explained to me that it's most likely just the room I am in, they told me NOT to buy their product because they wouldn't fix my problem.

it only happens on the first position Tele, and it goes away when I roll down the tone. I'm guessing it is the guitar reacting to all the crap surrounding my apartment like the guys from Ebtech said. They seemed like they knew the deal

The only guitar that I have noise problems with is my Tele with P90's. It gets worse and better depending on where I stand in the room. There's a lot of variables that play into it. The pickups, grounding, pedals, amount of gain, the electrical system in the room you're plugged into. Dealing with noise is a juggling act. I just bought myself an 18 foot cord to use with that guitar and it definitely helps to get further away from the amp.

Everyone's trying to "fix" hum and I'm trying to get back to a single coil Precision. I'm sure there are tons of guys here with fixes from copper tape to stacked coils. Good luck!

Get a shielding kit from StewMac, it worked on my Strat.
