If nothing else, have someone familiar with photography shoot some nice stills of your gig. Close-ups, long shots, the audience, everything (even set-up and tear-down).

Hey Kyle, I just thought of something. You might want to keep a song or two in your back pocket, so to speak, just in case people want an encore! :)

Glad everything went (mostly) well! Yeah, unfortunately a lot of club owners are like that. I've had more than my share of "words" with many of them.

Welcome to the "dark side" of professional gigging -- trust me, it could've been worse.

Glad you had fun though.

Rawk on!

Well then, you just learned the most important lesson about gigging...CONTRACTS!!!

I can't begin to count the number of times I've heard musicians complaining about either no pay, or less pay than they were promised. It might be worth your time to have a contract template so you can just fill in the blanks. Without it you've got no recourse. And any reputable bar owner should never have a problem signing what he's agreeing to. If they balk, you don't want to play there anyway...

Unfortunately that's common. We like to play for the door money. We pick the price and we collect. We bring a good crowd so we usually do well and the bar does well selling booze. Contracts are good when they are willing but not all are. Don't let it discourage you cause we are not in it for the money. At least my band isn't but it's still nice to get paid. It happens to everyone.

Glad everything went well Kyle. You got to play a pretty massive set list and that is cool for sure. Not getting paid happens to every musician sooner or later lol, so the next gig will be your money maker.

So glad the Music portion went so well, and it sounds like you had a good time. As for the payment issue, sad to say, but not everyone in this world is as good as their word. I am happy that you are already over it, can't let the unscrupulous types get to you.

Awaiting those pics!

kyle- did I read that your gig was in the Detroit area? I live an hour south, and I wasn't that far from there last night.

sorry about your pay situation. hopefully others will decide if they want to play at that place with the story you told us.
