my AVRI 69 Thinline Tele has a rear strap button that is spinning...the screw doesn't spin but with button spins around the screw. It is almost like the button wasn't tightened flush to the guitar but still seems stable.

Typically this would worry me but since the screw isn't moving and just the button can spin, should I take any actions?

I don't want to install anything if its not necessary but I move around A LOT at shows and I gig frequently...should I be concerned about the button spinning?

did you try to tighten the screw and it's already as tight as it will go?

you could

order up some felt washers from a place like Stew Mac.

or remove the stock strap buttons, and install strap locks (I like Schaller) if you don't already have them.

you could

A: take some small slim pieces of a flat tooth pick {cut with an xacto knife) and put it in to the screw hole, (you could also include a small DROP!!! of white wood glue) them re-tighten the screw till it's snug

B: order up some felt washers from a place like Stew Mac.

C: remove the stock strap buttons, and install strap locks (I like Schaller) if you don't already have them.

I was hoping to find other fender owners with this problem but never had to take action...hoping that the spin wasn't anything to worry since the screw isn't moving.

I don't like the idea of re-drilling because I did this on a les paul and it ALWAYS came loose no matter how many toothpicks or glue I used. Maybe the tele is different?

I think the spinning isn't a problem as long as the screw is tight and wont turn anymore.
I guess this is where a felt (or maybe there are rubber) washer could help you out.

as for drilling, yea, I don't blame you, I wouldn't either.

So if you go with the schaller locks you should be able to use the screw that fender provided with the guitar.

I have schallers on just about all my guitars 3 are fenders and my 95 stat does spin even with the washer ( just checked! :) yet it's in there solid, just like yours..

if it was my AVRI, I just put the straplock pins on using the stock screw and added felt washers (they come with them)

At one time, all Fenders came with stock the Schaller strap buttons, all ya needed to do was get the strap part and you were golden. however my 2014 strat standard did not come with these, so I just put them on (as mentioned) fastening them with the same screw that was already used to the stock strap button

If you really wanna make sure it stays, order a set of neck screws and use those. I did it to almost all of the Fenders I owned in the past.

When they don't even mention the simplest thing of all, try tightening the screw. Had you simply tried that to begin with....
Now we don't have to assume, we know for sure.

Well I figured since I said that the screw doesn't move implied that it was tightened down, hence it doesn't move. I guess that one got by y'all...

Since it's a self tapping screw you should be able to turn it alittle it will cut into the wood. Or you can find a little shorter screw and use that.

It sounds like the screw-head isn't bottoming out in the button enough. If the taper under the screw head is too big, it's just going to keep happening. You need to use one where the screw head makes a snug contact with the button.

Then I suggest you take the guitar to a pro for repair.

Hi teleric, nothing to worry about. A felt washer or two should tighten the button and keep it from spinning. :D
