The case that came with my American Vintage 69 Thinline Tele is not quality...Idk what Fender is doing with these new cases. What happened to the good TSA cases?

I need the best case that fits my Tele like a glove and it needs to be able to withstand anything. I tour a lot and it needs to be damn near bullet proof.

What case is best?

I've been using and trusting the G&G cases for as long as I've been playing a Strat (since 1968) and they've always given me good service. If you got one of the recent "Pro Line" cases, I'm not surprised that you find them lacking. They're styled after the G&G's but seem flimsy by comparison.

Hmmm, I bought an AVRI '69 Thinline a little more than a year ago and it came with a genuine, quality G&G case. Did you get a different case with your Thinline?

G&G has always been at the top of my list of the best hard shell cases. My '65 Strat came with a G&G case and it has protected my favorite Fender for all the years I have owned it.

I got a G&G vintage case but it seems flimsy, one of the latches seems unstable. I also feel like the case is good but the latches are a weak link....thinking I need something more TSA like for my heavy road use...

The newer G&G cases don't appear to be made as well as the older ones.

I'm not sure on the older ones bc I never had one but I surely don't trust this one. Another thing is that they aren't sealed tight. If I'm carrying my guitar in the rain even at short distances (from car to venue) there is a lot of space for water to get in. My old cheap cases don't even have this problem...

Amen to that. Brass that matches up badly, strap severely misaligned, sowing that misses the fabric edge, nails that have been jammed in so bad they cut the fabric, plush that gives clear nitro finishes case rash, and what appears to be a fifth of bad cologne dumped into it...
They want $200 for this, why? Because it looks like a trad case from a distance, wearing a gas mask?

Cheap SKB and Gator cases are better made than the G&G I got with my Select.

The case that came used with my 2012 AVS P bass seems to be fine. I've also got a couple older Fender black tolex models bought for my MIM P basses. They've seen a LOT of gigging in the past years. While they look beat. They still work fine. A shame if the quality has fallen off. I've been debating on getting myself a G&G in white blonde tolex with the red interior for my White Blonde AVS 57RI P as I've changed the stock gold anodized guard to a custom 10 hole tort from WD. I thought the white blonde/red combo would look really cool. I don't want to drop 200 bucks on a cheap case, though. :/

Go to your local music store and try some? Find what you like. Cases start at like $30 at my local store.

A friend just picked up a Mono and it's quite nice for
local transports:

Perhaps a CNB EC-4100 TN case will do? At $115 it seems affordable.

Othewise, if you need more than one case, some of the hard plastic SKB cases stack fairly securely, which is a plus.

Reviving this old thread because I just saw this video and thought the gang here might be interested.
I haven't priced one out yet and it doesn't look cheap but for some of my guitars I can see myself justifying it, particularly if air or coach travel was a factor.

I'm pretty sure this will fit the thinline fairly perfectly:

http://roadrunnercases.com/rpfe07/

Only $79 (think I got mine from GC for $39 with online price matching) and I really trust the zipper much more than metal clasps and no way is a light rain going to get through the zipper. The outer covering seems really good to me and I honestly trust the reinforced foam more than the plywood in most hard cases...

Anyway, I like mine... sometimes more modern engineering solutions surpass traditional designs. I think this is a case where this is true.

I bought a modern-day G&G case for my Telecaster not too terribly long ago. I chose this one:

(Scroll down past the listing for cases that are still being offered to see the type of case I bought)

https://reverb.com/item/876673-fender-custom-shop-western-tooled-hard-shell-case-for-strat-tele-mint

I have mixed feelings about the case.

(1) It looks amazing. Really, it's a killer-looking accessory, and fits my personal "Cowboy Gypsy" style. Think "Fabulous Thunderbirds meets ZZ Top with a healthy splash of Waylon Jennings," and you'll get the idea.
(2) It's good for storage and the light gigging/transporting I do nowadays.
(3) This thing is HEAVY. Not built for comfort or speed.
(4) While the case itself (the walls) is fairly strong and durable, the latches, hinges and handle leave something to be desired. I WOULD NOT tour or travel with this case, especially as checked baggage on an airplane. I have visions of busted latches, missing handles, destroyed hinges and guitars skidding down the tarmac. This case is made for storage or taking a guitar to an occasional gig or jam session (safely tucked in the back of your vehicle)...definitely not suitable for heavy gigging, and never, ever, ever for airline travel.
(5) It was kind of expensive.

It works for my purposes, and I'm happy with my purchase, but since I don't regularly gig and never travel by plane for gigs, I really have no suggestion for what kind of case to purchase. Please let us know what you choose and whether it's a good product, so the rest of us will know...(you know, for when the Stones call us and ask us to be the opening act on their next tour...)
