Hi,

I was just looking for Owner's Manuals for Fender amps and found different places that give different lists of .pdf files. One is a lot shorter than the other. The long one is better.

If you go to Fender Support and use the drop-down list to choose "Product Manuals", you get the short list at:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ct-manuals

But if you go to that same Web site, the Fender Support site and instead click on the icon for "Product Manuals" at the top of the center column of items on the page, you get the much larger list of manuals at:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ct-manuals

Someone should fix this.

Just sayin'...

Did you bother to even look at what was posted on each page and the links that are on each page? Somehow I doubt it. Perhaps you should take a second look before complaining.

Here's a hint: one link you posted goes to "Articles", the other goes to "Downloads". Two of three different tabs (there is nothing yet under "Videos") on the same page.

Yeah. It was really difficult, too.

Well, now that you've had fun calling me an idiot, might you explain why on the same page you can find "Product Manuals" twice, and one of them points you to the shorter "Articles" list, while the other points you to the longer "Downloads" list?

You may have your back-end justification for having these two lists, but it's a pretty stupid design to so easily lead people to the shorter list when they need the longer one. In other words, why have two lists labeled "Product Manuals", when only one of them actually is a list of product manuals?

Why have a drop-down list that includes "Product Manuals" on it at all, if you really expect people to scroll down the screen and click on the "Product Manuals" icon, instead?

Yes, if you search hard enough, you can find it. Is that the definition of good Web design these days?

The dropdown list says 'Search the Support Knowledgebase:' so it only returns Support articles (KB's) that refer to Product Manuals.

The link in the Support Quick Links section says 'Download copies of owner's manuals for Fender products.' so that brings you to the actual downloads section for Product Manuals - apparently an exhaustive list.

Some of the Support articles in the KB have links that bring you to specific files in the Downloads section, that way you don't have to scroll the huge list to find what you need. So the answer is, they were trying to make it easier for you to find the specific content you're looking for.

Funny, but I have never had any problems finding what I want on this site. Sorry that you are unable to do the same. Contact consumerrelations@fender.com with your suggestions. I'm sure that they will get right on it.

Looks like a pretty good design to me. Two simple paths to find what you need. Probably took you all of 15 seconds to figure that out, didn't it.

Just like the person that complains about the lifeguard that saves them from drowning, others will complain about anything that doesn't result in instant gratification.

You are not making friends here with remarkably unnecessary insults. You act like someone has pissed on your home team mascot and you have to be snide and threatening. Grow up.

Oh, right. This is the Internet. Maybe you actually ARE 14 years old and you think it's more important to look cool insulting someone than actually communicating with them. Welcome to push-back.

As I stated earlier, you obviously have a back end reason for this split. You have a list of knowledge base articles, and you have a list of downloadable .pdf files. The structure of your Web site is built around that.

Meanwhile, what does it look like from the front end? Stop thinking like a Web site engineer/provider and start thinking like an end user/consumer. The consumer wants to see an owner's manual for their gear. They start at the top of the page and visually scan. They see a drop-down list. It says something about a knowledge base. A lot of people don't know what that means, but they'll look to see what's on the list. Okay, it says, "Product Manuals". They look at the list. They don't see their product. They are now not on the right page to find the bigger list of product manuals. Why not just add a link that says, "All other product manuals"?

The person who makes this mistake searching your Web site is not an idiot. They merely misunderstood your brilliant design, and at this point, your brilliant design isn't working for them. They see a list of product manuals, but it doesn't include the gear they are trying to look up.

Yes, they could hit the "back" button and then continue scanning the page they already looked at and find the icon for Product Manuals, or they could click on the tab marked "Downloads" at the top of the screen and see the bigger list, if they understood your brilliant design.

But if you were a little less impressed with your brilliant design and you actually cared about making sure people find what they are after, you might ask yourself, "Why does someone want to see a Knowledge Base Article about a product manual, especially if such a list of articles doesn't include all the product manuals we offer?"

What you are doing here is giving people an opportunity to hit a dead end, and then insulting anyone who tries to point that out to you. Is this really benefitting the public image of Fender, Inc.? You sure are not encouraging ME to contribute to your discussions, or to say nice things about your products.

I just checked the guidelines for this forum:

In summary: please be respectful with each post, please be family-oriented, and try your best to avoid customer service issues here. Abide by these simple guidelines, and the potential for what we can accomplish here together continues to be virtually limitless. I’d ask that those of you who recognize and grasp this potential assist in helping us “self police” these forums. Do so by discouraging flame wars, personal attacks, etc. If we can continue to build a solid, friendly enthusiast community here the rewards will follow!

Do you really feel like you are living up to that in this discussion?

More so than you.

By the way, I have nothing to do with the Fender website, I am merely a satisfied user as are the many users of this site and forum. You are the the only one who seems to have a problem with it and appear to be a self proclaimed "expert" in how to design a website to suit your needs. I see nothing in my posts that violate the forum rules while your few posts here are full of insults and accusations. I consider you nothing but a troll. With that said, I bid you "buh-bye".

Troll?

You call me a troll and claim that I'm the only guy slinging insults?

Riiight.

But then getting in the last word is clearly important to you.

Have a nice life.
