Just sold the first of the two basses on there last night. So far it's excellent. I think the only problems will be the same as when you use ebay. Trouble at the distant end. However, the site itself seems really great. You can print a packing list, update the tracking info and they handle a lot of notifications and things for you. If there's anything more to report I'll check back, and if or when the second one goes I'll update.

Thank you for sharing this info...I'm going to try to figure out the weight and shipping costs for a 1983 G&L Nighthawk in the OHSC.

Having in mind eBay is ripping off a seller 10% fee of the final amount + 3% paypal fees .. Reverb.com sounds ok for now with their 3.5% fee.

I will not sell anything on ebay any more, they became too hungry for peps $$. There are other cheaper and better ways to sell.

Exactly, plus in my position these sales are going to purchase another gear purchase which will likely need to be done online anyhow. So there's not even the hassle of having to get the money out of the Paypal account. Living in the kind of area I do there are no local stores that carry higher end Fender bass gear. So I have to do everything on line or order it through my local shop. This seems to be a like a really good fit for my situation so far.

Okay, the first sale is totally complete. Now, I don't know how easy it is for people who use credit cards, or checks and the like. However, if you use paypal and don't mind keeping funds there this is pretty much the easiest thing I've ever dealt with.

Prospective buyer makes offer. You can accept, or counter/decline. I accepted. He paid. They alerted me when they confirmed the payment was good. I shipped. (They even have packing lists and invoices you can print off) You go in, update with the tracking info.

Seller got it. Posted feedback. They alerted me. I posted feedback for him. Awhile (a few days or more) later they notify you that your money is in your paypal and invoice you their fee. (Very reasonable compared to ebay!) Bam, pay now with the paypal and you're done!

Absolutely ZERO hassles on this transaction. So if you're cool with selling stuff on line and hate what ebay turned into. I would recommend it, but as always. Take everything with a grain of salt. I'm sure there are bad buyers on there. Like everywhere else. Hopefully my second bass goes soon. If it does I'll update again.

I decided to list a pedal that I wasn't using. It sold in three days. I did list it at a reasonable price so I'm not surprised it sold so quick. I'm on my way down to UPS to ship it. Happy seller I am!

Great to hear this--the axe I'm selling will be listed this Sunday...

...unless anyone wants to buy a 1983 G&L Nighthawk formerly owned by Brad Traweek!
(Just kidding, I know we can't sell here...)

Ok, an update:
I didn't put that G&L on the site until this last week...I was hoping things would turn around for us financially.

Unfortunately, they have not, (my contract was complete, so the job is over)...so my Nighthawk and an unused MXR M-86 Classic Distortion pedal have been listed. I'm looking through my other stuff right now as well.

I like the ease of listing--pretty painless and very few hoops to jump through...

I have a follow-up question for anybody who has used Reverb.com...

Did you use the "Bump" feature?
It gives a specific number of "Bumps" to the top of the list for similar searches (1000 impressions for $7.00 or 6000 impressions for $25.00, if the item sells).

My only question is whether that "similar" search is other G&L's or other Nighthawks (the Gibson variety, which has nothing to do with my guitar, except the fact that they're both solid body electrics.

I'm planning on waiting for a while to see if there's any interest, and then perhaps trying the "Bump" feature if it doesn't sell...unless somebody tells me that it was worth the extra cost.

I need a job and I need some cash, in either order. :?

I didn't know anything about the bump feature, so I didn't use it. My idea was to price it below what every one else was asking for the same item. It worked, I sold a Vox multifunction pedal in a few days, which surprised me.

From browsing the site extensively, it looks like it works on "everything". As long as your item matches the query in any way (say someone searches for "guitar", or browses a category like "deals and steals"), it will show up at the top in a special box. Which we browsers ignore, because we know those results will show up again later. It's annoying enough that I made an Adblock Plus rule to hide those top three entries.

Crap, I forgot to update. My 70's Precision solda few weeks ago, too. Again, perfectly smooth transaction. I'm loving this site so much I put up my Fender ABG, and an Ashdown Bass Dual Band Compression pedal I've had kicking around for years that I only used 3 times. I've been putting aside gig money and the sale of those two basses to partially finance either a brand new Bassman Pro rig or a Custom Shop Purchase. The the bonus I am due at the end of the year will cover which ever purchase I don't go with first. I'm just a hair shy of 2 grand right now. I figure this site is the perfect way to move anything I want to get rid of. I'm going to go through the back room and start digging out everything I haven't used in forever. (pick ups, pickguards and other parts.)

I have not used the "bump" feature yet. That seems a little "facebook" to me if you know what I mean. Unless I have something I absolutely have to move, and have to move it quickly. (which I don't) I can't see using it. However, if you need to move something quick it might be worth the investment of a few bucks to get the item featured.

I'm not too sure about that. To me as a buyer, it told me that this might be a hard sell that's being bumped because the seller couldn't sell it. And annoyed me. Now I AdBlock them.

Good point. Which is kind of the end user side of my "facebook" comment. If I'm constantly getting spammed I tend to turn off notifications from a page. No matter how much I like the page. If it's something they are promoting and it's worth while that's cool. However, if it's every week they are boosting posts about nonsense then they get "unfollowed". Same thing could definitely apply here. There are other ways to use the site to your advantage and get them to feature you without spamming people. If you start out with a fair, but solid selling price and it doesn't move after a month or so. Shave 5 bucks off. Even if it's just 5 bucks it should trigger the "price drop" alert to the site and it will get featured on that list. I know when looking at gear I sometimes check that out. When I said "facebook" I just meant tacky, and kind of a scam. I could see if this starts to be a big money generating scheme for them then they could go the facebook route and start restricting views to "encourage" bumping.

I sold a couple of guitar accessories on Reverb.com. One was a guitar strap that I didn't use, the other was a multi-effect pedal that also was collecting dust. Sold the strap in a few days. The pedal took longer, but I edited the listing to make it easier to find via the search (used multi-effect, multieffect, and so on - several variations of spelling), plus I threw in an unused/brand new instrument cable that I got for free buying another pedal. Adding the cable to the listing probably also got a few hits in the search that the pedal wasn't getting before.

So I think that using your imagination, you can funnel a few new people to view your listings and thereby make a sale.
