I am thinning the herd a bit (unfortunately for financial reasons), and want to sell a few items. I have browsed reverb.com in the past, but I haven't bought or sold anything on that site.

Does anyone have any experience selling (or buying, for that matter) on that site?

Good? Bad? Neither?

Please share your tale--thanks in advance!

I look forward to the feedback on this thread. I'm looking to move my Classic 70's and FSR Antigua Precision to finance another purchase They are great basses, but since getting my 57RI I never ever play them. I'd either like to get another AVS Precision as a back up, or possibly score a used CS single coil Precision. I've often wondered how this site worked for individuals.

I have been tempted to purchase from this site. I got lots of email from them for various pedals they sell. The "You Tube" footages do sound sweet.

hmmm, i was just about to put a Danelectro Hodad up on ebay. Maybe i should give this a try instead. Ran the ad locally on craigslist but didn't have much luck. Unfortunately our local craigslist seems to only cater to $100 guitars that are often listed as "strats" which are always off brand junk. The serious guitars just keep getting re-listed and never sell.

I can't vouch for buying anything on there due to my location, however I have spent about a month years ago travelling through Europe with Dan who writes some of their blogs. He with a few others started reverb.com and it seems to be booming. They had a booth at the last namm show and I can certainly vouch for him, we spent many times throughout our trip discussing music and guitars and I introduced him to some of my local bands.. He is a good guy and I know he is doing what he is passionate about :)

I have a few alerts on reverb.com, and think that's a great functionality.

However, I think the main site is partially ruined by regular stores selling off-the-shelf gear there. It makes it really hard and time consuming to just browse the site looking for what you don't find in normal stores. Which is the purpose of the site, no?
I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by accepting the new-from-store entries, and that the number of customers that leave or quit browsing because of being overwhelmed outnumbers the extra income.

I also think they should police the ads better. There are so many partsocasters and homemade guitars advertised as "Fender". And gear with visible wear and damage being advertised as "as new" or "mint". Allowing misleading ads doesn't do reverb.com any good. I thought they had a human look over every ad before it appeared, but that can't be so.

Would I use it to sell? No, because I need to be able to pick the buyer. Price is the least important factor when I sell something. That it goes to someone who will actually use it and not turn around and sell it to make a profit matters more. But if selling price is the only concern, yes, I can see reverb.com being useful.

Reverb.com led me to my '67 blackface Deluxe.

A small Ma & Pa in KY listed an Amp on Reverb.com that I was curious about.

Turned out that it wasn't what I wanted, but the store owner alerted me to this Deluxe they were about to take on consignment from the orig. owner's heirs settling his estate. The shop owner put us in touch w/ each other and we made the deal.

As soon as I return from JazzFest in 3 weeks, I'm going to list my '96 60th Ann. Princeton Chorus there.

Like some others I also have some alerts registered there too.

cheers!

I almost bought a guitar on Reverb.com at one time but I was having trouble getting a response from the seller about closing the deal so the folks from Reverb.com stepped in. They went out of their way to get down to finding out what the problem was, what had happened was the guitar had been sold to someone else and the seller didn't look to see if there were any more messages after making the sale. The people who are behind Reverb.com proved themselves to be very conscientious and diligent in fixing my problem and I'd have no qualms with dealing with them again.

I have listed two guitars on Reverb. one sold in 2 hours, the other has been listed for 4 months. Ad run until they sell or forever which ever comes first.

That in itself is an excellent feature.

Alright. I think this week I'll be posting a few basses. Seems like the overall feedback is good.
