There seems to be a strong affinity for pastel colors with Fender lately. I'm not sure whether this plays into the whole relic fad, and how pastels are perceived to be associated with the 1950s?

I'd love to see some darker colors, like Oxford Blue, or the return of Candy Cola.

It is probably the "geniuses" who try and figure out which colors are best for sales. Want candy cola? Check out the custom shop. Candy Cola can then generate more bottom line. Though I am not sure that color is offered.

Supposedly a lot of Fender colors are based on stock automobile colors, especially those from the 50's ....

Surf Green ... and it is not even close, in my opinion ...

Sonic Blue seems to be so much more common (it may not be, but I definitely have that perception). Besides, Surf Green (which, I know, is not Sea Foam Green) still looks soooo much better. Sonic Blue will make you feel you are playing gigs at a baby shower ... (is it okay if I laugh at my own jokes??)

Hmmm...you know, those look pretty good next to each other. You could always buy it in sonic blue and put a surf green pickguard on it. :D 8)

I'll be getting a new Fender American Standard FSR Stratocaster in the next few weeks. There is however one problem... I am torn between Surf Green and Sonic Blue. I love both colours, and I'm stuck on choosing between the two.

Would there be any benefit to owning one colour over the over? (for example rarity)

What are your views? Anyone have pictures of both colours for comparison?

You hit on two of my all time favorite colors, Harry. I ended up going the both route with a 2013 FSR Surf Green American Standard and a Sonic Blue American Vintage '61 Thin-skin. The American Standard's Surf Green is quite a bit darker than the Surf Green on the Classic Series 50s Strat I traded for it. It looks more like Sea Foam Green to me but I love the color.

The Thin-skin has a nitro finish while the American Standard is poly. Here is an outdoor pic of both.

They're both classic colors and you can't lose either way. Your best bet is to check them out in person to see which one you like better.

This Surf Green FSR American Standard really oozes the El Becko vibe! :P

Just like Jeff's own guitar without the LSR nut, locking tuners and dual-coil ceramic humbuckers!

Even without those goodies this baby is capable to handle his signature tones to perfection, with a few adjustments the 2-point vintage tremolo plays like buttah.

I saw a Strat in Sam Ash that was Sonic Blue with a mint pickguard and Maple neck. It was the coolest one in there. Very nice looking guitar. I'd vote for that one.

I'd go with the Sonic Blue.

Green is my favorite color, but I'd still go with Sonic Blue. It ages like Diane Lane.

Wow, john.bohn, what a lovely brace of Strats. Truely you are blessed.

I don't know, buy the color that matches your girlfriend's/wife's eyes, and be sure to tell her that's the reason you bought the guitar.

Do Fender guitars really come in florid and jaundice?

Thanks, Taurus. Finding the right Sonic Blue Strat took 7 years and the Surf Green took 8. I should be satisfied but I know there is a great looking Fiesta or Dakota Red Strat out there somewhere... the search never ends. :)

Cool for sure, GTG. There are classic car shows every weekend near the Guitar Center I like to visit and the '56 and '57 Chevys in those classic colors always look great. It's a good thing they're not for sale. GAS is a tough enough addiction to resist.
