About 20 or so years ago a local girl wanted to record an original album. We wrote 8 original songs and recorded her in our homemade studio.
I loaned out my only copy shortly after we completed the album and never got it back. Just this past week I was fortunate enough to obtain a CD copy of these songs.
It's been great listening to the songs....some not too bad and a few not all that great, but I've really enjoyed listening to each of them and re-living the memories.
Thought I would share my favorite song from the album. I think you'll enjoy it.
JMHO, but I think this girl can really sing!

Nice!

She has a beautifully resonant voice and the guitar riffs have that distantly melodic Crabby Appleton vibe.

A re-mix that added backup vocals and some tasteful pedal-steel work could easily put this tune into the "new" country category.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Arjay.
It's funny how quickly the memories came back....certian things that we did in the studio, conversations, working out what works and what doesn't. It was fun.
When I listen to my bass lines they seem so simple.....even for me. I hear all kinds of holes and ideas of how to fill them run through my mind, but that was 20 years ago. Country bass was played with simple bass lines back then compared to today's. Honestly......I probably would't change all that much.
I wanted to share just one more song with you. I think you'll enjoy it, especially the lead ride in this one. I think Chuck nailed it. He also co-wrote the song....kind of humorous, but if you only knew Chuck.......

I swear, if you'd said that was Fox Fire with Trisha Yearwood on vocals I'd have no reason at all to doubt you. Superb!

Very tasteful guitar work as well.

yep, vocalist definitely has that certain something. And nice production for a home-grown demo.

Thanks.
I think she had that certain something as well. Real nice girl too. I believe she was in her mid to late 20's when we did the recording. She spent one week shopping the demo in Nashville and got around 8 offers from some of the smaller labels. If I remember correctly, it seems like her husband decided he didn't want her to sign. I also think she was a little dissapointed that the bigger labels didn't offer. Anyway, that's all in the past. She sings in church now and will make you feel the good Lord's presence.

Our keyboard player fixed up the studio in his grandmother's old house. We just about lived there back then. I always felt he had a pretty good ear when it came to live sound, recording and final mixes.
I was over at his house tonight and he still and uses his old Carvin board. He said he paid around $2,300 for it in 1980.

Thank you sir.

FYI - I was playing my '92 Jazz Bass Plus V on these recordings. I ran it through a SansAmp DI (no controls on them back then) to the board.

Received an old demo the other day of the band from around the same time we recorded Dayna. :D
I'm not positive, but I think I was playing my '75 p-bass on these.

Chuck Pitman singimg Alan Jackson's "Someday".

That original composition is beautiful -- melodic and tight.

The cover is okay too but I prefer my country with a bit more "edge". Like this......

Regardless, thanks for posting Gary.

I like the Tim McGraw song. Thanks.
Also thanks for complimenting the original songs. Glad you liked them.
Here's another one with a bit more edge that we recorded for a demo a couple of years later; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU-Up-2lgTc
The demo recordings were made to send out to club owners. Those songs were popular at the time and that's why we recorded them. Actually we still do Neon Moon fairly often and it still packs the dance floors around here. Surprisingly, most older country does as well, but you have to keep updated if you want to book some gigs.
JMHO......a lot of today's country songs are similar in some ways to some of the old rock, but not as good......and yes we learn 'em and play 'em.....even Jason Aldean songs.

That one's tasty too......sort of a "Fox Fire meets Boot Scootin' Boogie". Nice arrangement!

Here's another of my favorite Tim McGraw tunes......

Seems like his corners have been rounded off a bit since he married Faith Hill though.
