anyone know the difference between an H/H Blacktop Strat and an H/H Blacktop Jaguar?
Both have alder bodies, but the Jag has a smaller body and a 24" scale opposed to the Strat's 25 & 1/2" scale.

Can I assume the Jag would be a little lighter?

I'd imagine so. Does the Jag have the trem route, or is it a hardtail one? (they made both iirc)

Personally, I'd do the Jag, regardless.

I'd get the hardtail one.
I have a Blacktop Strat (H/H) and I love it. I removed the bar (and adjusted the trem) and use it as a hardtail. I put in Dimarzio Air Zone and a Dimarzio Air Norton.

I LOVE it, but it get's a little heavy. I am a light guy and have relatively small hands.
I played the Jag and almost bought it but decided on the Strat.

Now I think I want the smaller scale, and lighter, smaller body.

Check out the fender ja-90. It's a tele, but it's a thinline, and has a short Gibson scale. Comes with a pair of SD p90's that are very hot. 14k+ if I recall. Also has a stop tailpiece and a set neck.

I love mine, although the frets to me seem really big and I tend to prefer my frets on the smaller side.

Jags usually weigh more than Strats (assuming they are both actually alder), the scale length has nothing to do with the weight. The Jags offset body shape while it might look smaller actually has more wood due to it's shape, hence they are usually heavier. If you lay the Strat on top of the Jag you will see what I mean.

Honestly, I don't know. Go in a store and pick one guitar up, then pick the other guitar up. If you're planning on buying a guitar based solely on how much it weighs then you might want to take the bathroom scales with you, just to be 100% certain you're buying the right one.

Good call.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'm not sure that weight would be my deciding factor in choosing a guitar !

Even if one were lighter than the other, the difference is likely insignificant in the long run.

One exception would be my Empress Tele which is 2+ lbs. lighter than it's siblings - significant difference that !

For me, Tone and Feel top my list !

(besides, I've never been much of a Jaguar Fan anyway)

cheers!

This: "Even if one were lighter than the other, the difference is likely insignificant in the long run."- is what I was thinking the answer to be.
