The man is absolutely incredible, and the music that he and his band produce is fantastic. It took me a while to get to like him, but he is definitely one of my all-time favorites now. 8)

He has music in and around him that's for sure. He is the nephew of Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks and his wife is Susan Tedeschi.

Last time I checked he was, but that has been a month or so ago.

When I saw Clapton, Trucks had dropped out of that leg of the tour because of conflicting scheduling with his own band. I was disappointed... but Doyle Bramhall made up the difference.

Don't forget he actually played/toured as part of the Allman Brothers for a year or two.

Gregg Allman used to live in northern California during the 90's. When he was not on tour with the Allman Brothers Band, he would go out (usually along the left coast) with a veteran band made up of musicians, primarily from the Bay Area, I believe.

One New Year's Eve (1995, maybe, I got really blotto) I saw him in Santa Barbara with my wife (...um...on stage...not "with my wife"). The band was tight and excellent, as always. About mid-way, he brought out this young kid (maybe 16), with a baseball cap pulled down over his face. He said it was Butch Truck's nephew, Derek. The kid then proceeded to tear the house down with artistry and talent. I caught the guys on the stage looking, nodding, and smiling at each other every time this kid solo'd. It was obvious then, and now, that Derek has "the gift".

He plays mostly slide with the current iteration of the ABB; and the former slide star, Warren Haynes, is now de-facto musical leader, organizing and directing the inter-play on stage (which was Dickie Betts role before he left [forced out?] the band). Derek plays a Gibson SG.

There is a nice little interview with him on the Crossroads Chicago release. he talks about listening to Derick and the Dominos 'In Concert" and how that inspired him and influenced his playing.
You'll find lots of little nicities like that on the DVD.

Hey Chet,

Have you seen the Clapton Chicago Crossroads Concert DVD? Susan (and Mike Mattison) sing Anyway with Derek & the band. I saw about 2 hours of the concert on PBS a while back. That song made me put buying the DVD near the top of my "things I really can't live without" list. 8) If you haven't seen it someone has posted a copy on YouTube.

Out of the Madness by the Derek Trucks Band is one of the best CD's I have ever listened to. Parts of it sound like pure delta blues and part of it sounds like a cross between John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana.

yeah, he in my opinion, one of the most talented god given musicians of all time. susan teduschi, is a terrific guitar player, and singer too.
but, derek does indeed have that "gift".
(i would write in jene sequa if i could spell and write french)
