I received a pretty cool email this morning and thought it would be great to share it with everyone. Check it out at
http://scottymoore.net/larrywelborn.html

Be sure to watch the video where Larry talks about meeting Elvis and his influence on Buddy

It's a great interview and revealing to see that capo placed at the fifth fret, remembering how we all labored to learn that solo back in the day, without using one.

Now the interviewer observes that the Stratocaster guitar in the photo of The Four Teens 'recently sold for 4 million dollars.' We have been given to understand that Holly's first Stratocaster was subsequently stolen and replaced with an early '58 model. "The Four Teens" have Joe Mauldin on bass. This obviously precedes 'The Crickets' and the future circumstances under which Holly's original Strat was lost. Hence, the guitar in photo could not possibly be the '4 million dollar seller' referenced in the interview.

Comments??

Here's a closer, albeit not much better, shot of the guitar

I'm guessing it would be Buddy's first Strat and Larry may just not be aware of the status of it or eventual disposition. To be honest though, I didn't pay much attention to the reference to a $4 million auctioned Strat. I'm not too up on it but I thought the top money for any Strat to date was Clapton's blackie at about $1 Million. When did any Strat of Buddy's go at auction?

I have no knowledge of such. It was the interviewer who put the question, which motivated mine. Last I knew, the well known John Page guitar [neck date 4/58], the one he reconditioned, was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Tribute guitar which Fender built was a composite designed from photographs.
