This evening I got a message from boutique pickup wizard Craig Vineham letting me know that the gold pickup cover that I needed for my Epi Les Paul Custom finally arrived.Back in the fall Craig made up a set of 3 of his Sweet-V-59 pickups that nail the tone of the PAFs that were on Mike Bloomfield's 59 Les Paul that he used on his beautiful but hard to find "It's Not Killing Me " album. My SG bodied '61 Les Paul Custom reissue now sounds like the original did with the PAFs,she can sound as sweet and creams as a big bodied Gibson jazz box or raunch out like a hot-rodded SG with overwound pickups.

I asked Craig if he could do me up a set of mini humbuckers that would give me the same tone from my '06 Custom Shop Epi Firebird V that Johnny Winter gets from his old '64 Firebird V-of course he can do it.All I have to do now is wait for his price quote and email the money to him.The Sweet-V-59s only cost me about $60 each and they are head and shoulders any of the PAF reissues that I have heard on any Gibson guitars yet.I see that Gibson wants $165 for their mini-humbucker reissues when I'd venture a guess that Craig's will come in much less than that by probably as little as 1/3 the cost.

Both Blinkers and I have used his pickups-Blinkers has almost all his humbucker equipped guitars retro-fitted with Vinehams and his Strat style guitars too, except for his Seymour Duncan model MIJ Strat.(I believe that it's Seymour Duncan) Several guys we know have tried Craigs pickups and have raved about them. You can check out his website: http://www.vineham.com or look him up on Facebook,it would be well worth your while.

That strat is a part of the Dimarzio Series by Fender Japan. Great guitars in case anybody should have an opportunity to get one.

So far, I have used Craig's pickups in 2 LP's, 1 tele and 2 strats, now I have a set of his Whiskey Burner buckers that will be installed in my next Vintage Series Bacchus LP.

This guy winds such a fabulous pickup for crazy cheap prices compared to other boutique brands. Excellent service and communication.

I was referred to him by another local musician a couple of years ago that referred to him as "our" best kept secret...

If your thinking about it.....do yourself a favour 8)

Craig got back to me yesterday and he's doing my mini humbuckers for just $160 for the pair which is a far shot better than the $165 each that Gibson wants for them.I can't wait to drop them into the Firebird,I just hope that the adapter pickup bezels fit.
