Speaking of Korea,

I have a MIK squier strat I bought years ago. The weird thing is it has “Squier” in small letters where the “Countour Body” text is on the US strats and “Fender” is in the large font on the headstock. This is a ca1993 guitar. Always wondered why the Korean faction were able to put “Fender” in the large font on these guitars. It was a nice playing strat until I ripped it apart and made a partscaster out of it. Its still a decent guitar but I should have just kept it stock.

Check this out- very interesting video of a guitar factory in China. This has made me think twice about Chinese instruments and had they not use cheap hardware and electronics aside, I think they do a good job :)

Who knows. I mean, hell- this is just a youtube video. But I can't see CNC machines pumping out strat bodies & necks on a mass scale.. and I see some great attention to detail. Very 'hands on' approach here..Kinda makes me think of the Fender Customshop.. if only these guys had exotic and high grade woods and good components.. they would be making some awesome stuff. 8)

Isn't the wood they use per definition exotic for China? Or do they substitute maple, aspen and ash for local woods?

Actually China has an abundance of forests of various exotic woods....

... and abundance of all sorts of other natural resources, and complete control of its monetary system

If the wood grows in China, it's not exotic, it's domestic. Per definition.
American ash would be an exotic wood in China.

Because the good folks at Fender's US HQ allowed it.

I have a MIC Mod Player Jaguar. It is the best neck and finished fret work of all my guitars. The craftsmanship is superior in every way to my MIA Tele and Les Paul. The side fret finish on my MIA's shows signs of working while texting. :? My Indonesian Ibanez is also a better crafted guitar. I am so over America and its myth of exceptionalism. Gave up on the cars decades ago and saved a lot of money and inconvenience in the process.

I enjoy supporting the smaller American companies like, Eminence, Weber and Tone Tubby. I use Fender because it is a decent product and works for me, despite poor to mediocre QC. Even the EC line is not "all that" when it comes to QC. I smell shareholders and their ilk.

I just bought an Epiphone es-335 Pro, made in China, and it seems to be perfect. Playing it through my made in China Pignose G40V tube amp is blues heaven.

Look at the Eastman company, predominantly know for string instruments ( violin's, viola's, cello's ) but they also make very affordable and excellent acoustics...
The music store I frequent in RI Wakefield Music started to carry the line a couple years ago.
Coming from high-end Larrivee's, i was impressed by the middle line....
BTW, it is actually an american company but is completely based in China, has excellent craftsmen and is also up to speed with safety issues for the workforce...
The magazine Fretboard Journal published an article on Eastman a couple years back.

It's a 180 degree's from what we just saw in that video, which i would suspect are under the radar pirate copies...

I thought they were predominantly known for film?

So let me get this straight...
You think that the Fender Custom Shop looks like the messy and disorganized Chinese sweat shop in the video you posted???
Where did you come up with such an idea that the Fender Custom Shop looks like this disgraceful and disgusting Chinese guitar factory???
Blertles, you must be smoking a lot of that stuff that Donald Rumsfeld is rolling....

No safety glasses, or hearing protection, or masks on some of the painters.

Maybe they took stuff off because they were being videoed.
Gotta look good, you know.

Every OSHA inspector's wet dream!

Take a look at the Chinese plant in the original video posted by Blertles.
It is a completely disorganized and filthy shop.
Just look at the messy and cluttered work tables in the Chinese plant
You don't see that in the Fender Ensenada, Mexico plant.
Look at how the guitar bodies and necks are stored in rather random fashion at the Chinese plant.
You don't see that in the Fender Ensenada, Mexico plant.

Note in the Fender Ensenada, Mexico plant video below, the ears eyes and nose safety signs that are shown where the employees enter the plant at the 19 second mark of the video below and the overhead signs in the plant at the 21 - 25 second mark, telling employees what protection is necessary in areas of the plant.
Did you see anything like that in the Chinese Plant?

Note the use of a metal jig to drill the strap button hole at the 3.50 mark of the video below.
Now take a look at the 4.26 mark of the original Chinese video.
Do you see the use of any type of jig to drill a strap button hole in the Chinese Plant?

In which plant would you want your guitar to be made; the Chinese plant, or the Fender Ensenada, Mexico plant, without even considering the Fender Corona factory and Custom Shop????

Clearly the North American operations have better fortune and are able to shell out a top product. But people need work. Providing income for your family, even if it means having to do it at a workplace where you know safety is substandard is nothing to be ashamed of. Often they don't have a choice. And many of these people really do take pride in their work, just like any strong-hearted individual. And if anyone in their situation didn't, I wouldn't blame them one bit. Be thankful for what you have.

I've tried a few Squier CV strats. They are awesome for the money and well-crafted, lesser-componentry aside.

Please be assured that my criticism above was not directed at the Chinese workers.
Rather, my criticism was at the comparison by the original post of this Chinese facility and/or its product to the Fender Custom shop.
In addition, my criticism is directed toward what ever corporate entity believes that maximizing their profits should include minimalizing the safety and well-being of its workers.
