Check this out- very interesting video of a guitar factory in China. This has made me think twice about Chinese instruments and had they not use cheap hardware and electronics aside, I think they do a good job :)

Who knows. I mean, hell- this is just a youtube video. But I can't see CNC machines pumping out strat bodies & necks on a mass scale.. and I see some great attention to detail. Very 'hands on' approach here..Kinda makes me think of the Fender Customshop.. if only these guys had exotic and high grade woods and good components.. they would be making some awesome stuff. 8)

I liked watching the video.

No safety glasses, or hearing protection, or masks on some of the painters.

Perhaps they leave it up to the employees to aquire themselves if they want them.
It looks like some quality work going on there. They are keeping up the Fender name for sure.

Thank you for posting.

D.

My first electric guitar is a Chinese Epi SG other than the bad hardware, electronics, and the plywood body, everything has been replaced except the body and neck, its not to bad, I have fun with it.

Maybe they took stuff off because they were being videoed.

Gotta look good, you know.

Isn't the wood they use per definition exotic for China? Or do they substitute maple, aspen and ash for local woods?

Right at the end of the video doesn't he say it is in Korea?

Actually China has an abundance of forests of various exotic woods....

China for the most part has a very lax and selective criteria where labor safety is concerned.
They do for Companies affiliated with the west and in the limelight, those are the exceptions to the rule....

To be fair this didn't look all that much different from any woodshop I've worked in...
Definitely more unkept but life in the woodshop is usually quite messy...
Installing respiratory as well as dust control machinery is also extremely costly..
Although fine sawdust flying about is highly combustible...

Hence why stateside OSHA is very hands-on...

Yeah, they would. But you wouldn't exactly label maple aspen or ash as exotic... Perhaps if it's figured.. But the Strat and other Fender guitars when they were made- 'Tonewood' was not the priority for building materials. It was the function that was needed for the wood.

Puts some perspective of what is coming out of China though :)
