I was wondering if I can use a Hard Rock amp like a Marshal for Blues music? I'm new to Blues.

Of course you can! :) Any amp can be used for blues, and Marshalls are one of my personal favorites. I got to borrow an 80's JCM800 stack for a little while and I loved how it sounded for rock and blues. Just be careful not to go too overboard with distortion, a little break up is nice but you don't want your tone to be overly muddy or have a metal type scooped mid range for most blues.

Check out John Mayall Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton to hear what a Marshall amp in the blues sounds like...

Turn off the distortion, put on some mild overdrive, and let 'er rip.

Having said that, if you aren't playing some ridiculous buzz-bomb/no-dynamic-having/piece of crap solid-state heavy metal amp (and/or effects), your picking dynamics and technique will have a bigger influence on your overall final sound than the amp you're using.

I could take the guitar out of Kerry King's hand, turn down the distortion, and would get a reasonable blues sound out of his rig, due to the fact I'm a blues guitarist.

Conversely, If you put Kerry through my rig, he still wouldn't sound like a blues guitarist, because he just isn't that type of musician.

Yes... It is about the tone, warm, plaintiff, Blues is about despair, Done me wrong type of emotion, so the playing, sound, should be in a theme that heralds to better time's ahead...

For that Tube ( valve amps are the more versatile for playing blues ). Curently I'm using a Pro Junior as my Go-To Amp... The Magnatone is at the doctor's... I will possibly also pick up a tweed Blues Deluxe in the near future...
But a Marshall will definitely do the trick....

There's a long list of player's that use(d) Marshall's for R/B and Blues....
Have Fun... 8)

As you get used to playing the blues your amp possibilities will grow. You would need a Marshall or other high wattage multi-cabinet rig just to get stage volume at bigger venues. Other than that for top shelf, Fender Super Reverb or Fender Twin Reverb after that take your pick, have fun on your test drives. :D

That is a funny image...I'd probably need a knife or a baseball bat to get the guitar out of his hand, he looks pretty stout...maybe I'd just ask him politely. I can see it now:

"Mr. King, can I use your rig for just a moment? I need to prove an argument on the internet..."

Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy...

They have all used Marshall amps to differing degrees of blues virtuosity at different points of their careers.

FYI; the op started two similar threads here on the Fender Forums and one on the Gibson forums and never posted again to any of the threads. I don't want to use the T word, but I always wonder why people don't participate in threads they start.

Just 2 threads here? I recall many threads of the type:

Can I use ... to play heavy metal?
Can I use ... to play hard rock?

The discussions don't get very deep.
