I'm going to be fixing up my Guild, and new tuners are on the list. The originals are good, but one is missing and was replaced with a basic open back gear. Originals are impossible to find these days and they're no longer manufactured.

My question is about Kluson tuners, specifically Deluxe vs Wafflebacks.

Why are wafflebacks almost double the price of deluxes? Other than the look, are there any differences? Are wafflebacks really worth the price, or are deluxes just fine? Either way, I will be using Klusons, as I like their simple and effective design.

what did you have on the Guild ??
I had Waffle backs on my 69 LPC which I just recently sold on E-Bay..
On my 98 MIM I have the deludes but they are the newer versions..
Very nice and vintage correct for the Fender style.

Look into LMI ( Luthier's Mercantile International Inc )

Believe it or not, they're early fully sealed Gotoh. They're just not common. My local luthier helped me find a guy who specializes in Guild parts, but he didn't have any in stock, though he knew what I had.

To be honest, though, I'm thinking Wafflebacks, though I don't know if they have the split hollow shaft like the Deluxes do.
