I don't think I'm looking for the Rat or a Univox Superfuzz. I'm wondering if that pedal I tried out at the music store was a DIY build. I guess I'll never know! :|

edited to comply...

it was a youtube clip from My Cousin Vinny when he responds to the Judge about his not liking his suit.

Me thinks you watch too much movie clips on Youtube! :P

Uh did you read my initial post stating that I want TWO to THREE KNOBS on the pedal.

Take your eyes rolling elsewhere, please - that's just rude to someone who tried to help you.
Personally, I do not equate "want" with "unnegotiable must".

While being stubborn can be a good trait in some situations, when you're asking for advice, it's not.
My prediction is that the next time you ask for help or opinions, there won't be a lot of replies, because you come across as both unappreciative and stubborn, and biting the hands that try to feed you.

Well is it so rude to suggest to myself that the MXR Classic 108 Fuzz seems to be interesting to say the least. Hmm, I always equate Dunlop and MXR with that crackle, snap and pop (I meant it in a skeptical kind of way). Under $130= yep, general fuzz tone= yep, two to three knobs= yep, classic fuzz sound= yep but it might be related too much to the Fuzz Face, I dunno?

The MXR 108 Fuzz is pretty much a Fuzz Face. BC 108 Transistor so yeah… your just came full circle to a Fuzz Face. I’d recommend if you went down that route to check out the Fuzz Face mini silicon but alas it has one less knob so I guess that’s out. It does however have a Bias tweak in the batt compartment which if I’m correct is essentially you’re third knob as it exists on the MXR. It’s a tad cheaper and its closer to the original circuit

But by all means… don’t try it out or anything.

Edit:

Oh wait… both have only two knobs so you’re in luck.

Fuzz Face mini is a cool pedal

This might be the wrong forum to ask: What is the difference between a regular size silicon Fuzz Face and a Mini, besides size?

I'm basically looking for a fuzz pedal that will actually work, that isn't subtle and that can't be matched with the amps natural overdrive. There you be! :)

If you haven't tried it, you don't know.

Dunlop/MXR makes quite a few excellent pedals (several of which grace my pedalboard, none of which are "generic" sounding).

Re: this particular pedal, it may be a bit too mild for you wants. Certain versions of the ProCo Rat are very biting and heavy in tone; the Univox clones are pretty wild too.

Questions for you:
where do you live?
Are there any specialty/boutique shops nearby that might have some non-standard fare in inventory?
Your vague descriptions are getting a bit better, but your weird obsession with "only two or three knobs" is baffling; I don't care if the pedal has 30 knobs or only one--if it sounds good and is within my budget, it would go home with me.

One other thing--since you seem to dismiss suggestions out-of-hand, with little or no consideration or research into what the pedal may or may not do, you need to google "tones of different Mini Fuzz Faces." I'm not going to waste my time typing to explain the difference between silicon, germanium, etc., since you'll probably just say, "Gooblety gop, jimme jern poobah pup...that's what I want!"

You can also find a lot of demos on youtube… yes there I go with the youtube again.

Gearmandude does some pretty good comparison demos.

Fuzz Face mini

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24I66jRPzyQ

ProCo Rat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNi5l95CVl0

The rat video is a really good demonstration of the 3 different flavors. Granted. The Rat 2 is NOT the one with the magic chip (LM308) but he does a really good demo of these pedals. And in this video I really dig the You Dirty Rat

Obviously your amp and guitar is going to vary so even demo videos are not going to be a perfect thing to go by but at least you can get a sense of what direction you want to go in.

Perhaps a song that you like that has what you’re looking for? That would be the next best thing to the Staff of Ra and the location of the Map Room.

HI! I'm new here. I generally use the name donaldmoon when online, but also have to use Don or Donald sometimes. I 'm from Memphis & am restarting on new/used guitars (SG/SG) after about 15 yrs. So, anyway, I've just purchased a Fender Mustang Mini & a Champion 40. Does anyone know if there is a footswitch for the Champion 40 amp available? I see that there should be, but I can't find one anywhere? Looks like it's got 2 buttons. What do they do? --Thanks, D.  :?:

No idea, a picture would tell you, but I can't seem to even locate a picture of this footswitch.

Well, this thread has been mildly amusing and very informative. Thanks for all those great demos, people. You've turned me on to some great fuzz pedals. :D

James, just in case you really want a fuzz pedal, I suggest you take your guitar into the local music stores and try every fuzz pedal they have until you find one you like. Just make sure you play it through an amp like the one you own. Best of luck on your quest.

Hmm, I'm trying to read into the last part of your post? Do you question my interest in fuzz pedals? Exactly how many people bring both their guitar and amp to the music store solely to try out a pedal? Do you really wish me best of luck? Hey maybe we can get Butch A to chime in on his take of fuzz, eh.
