You're a pretty lucky guy. I turn 40 this year and I'd love to do something like this for my birthday. Should they ever introduce Nitro body finish to the ADE I might have to make the trip. Looks like a load of fun. I hope you enjoy the experience!

Nitro is a type of finish. It doesn't feel as plastic as Polyurethane and a lot of us believe it doesn't dampen your sustain as much as Polyurethane does.
Nitro finish is easier to damage (and will wear off quicker; so you can get a road worn guitar within a couple of years instead of already buying it in a road worn finish or buying an old guitar), but also easier to fix if you want to fix the area with a scratch-removing paste.

So it's not a colour, but a type of finish. :)

Yup! This finish is what was used in the 50's and 60's and is still used on American Vintage Series, and Custom Shop instruments that represent those time periods. As it stands now, the ADE only offers Poly bodies. However, perhaps Rob will swing back in and give us the scoop on what is exactly doable in the tour build shop. Perhaps there are more options available on site than in the on line builder?

I think they aren't the only ones with Nitro finish though. My Highway One strat (by Fender) also has a beautiful sunburst Nitro finish :)

Hi KoP,
Luckily, I have editing capability!!! I just checked with one of my guys that has been there and he tells me that it's variable.....so yes the on-site Visitor Center offering is mixed. Could be either or both.
All the best,
rob

Correct, but there's a difference in the under, or clear coat if I remember. Something in the process is different. I also believe this is the case with the Classic Series Laquer and Roadworn instruments. Some use a different kind of finish, and others use the Nitro with a poly clear coat, or undercoat. Not sure which. However, what this does is defeat the resonance properties of the Nitro. because the wood is still tightly sealed in.

I didn't know that, thanks :) I suppose it's still better than Poly/poly finish/undercoat though :)
