It was inevitable that this would happen sooner of later-I'd fall hopelessly head-over-heels for two different makes of guitar at the same time.Friday while trying out toys for my birthday,I tried out the pedals on a Gibson Firebird V with mini-hums and was floored by the tone and the wonderful wide neck-even though my smallish hands rarely find wide necks comfortable.I also saw my first 60th Ann. Strat and since this is my 60th year and since I was given a 50th Ann. Strat for my 50th birthday I really wanted the 60th Ann. Strat. The guitar was a MIJ and the build quality was absolutely flawless. The body appeared to be one piece which would be an incredible rarity,so I looked really closely front and back for several minutes and came to the conclusion that she's either one piece or that she was the product of the most incredible piece of grain matching and joining that had ever taken place. The Firebird was $1,600 but I didn't get the price of the Strat. If I hadn't bought the at least 4 guitars and at least the same number of amps as well as a lot of expensive pedals in the past year I could have certainly been able to swing the purchase of at least one of these babies and probably both of them-dependant on the cost of the Strat. It's a pity that I'm not clairvoyant and consequently have to act on GAS as it attacks, without having the luxury of looking into the future.

Might be time to thin the herd Derek to finance the GAS. PS Happy belated Birthday. :(

Thanks guys for the birthday greetings.I have sold or traded gear to help finance the buying of new gear and have lived to regret parting with the older gear immensely-so I won't be doing that again. In the meantime,we are currently in the painstakingly slow process of changing around the configuration of our rec room/music room set up.We have the old 9 X 9 music room finished now, with regard to the flooring and ceiling, all that remains now is to put up shelving for the many hundreds of books that I have. For now we are going to take all the guitars, amps etc. that we can fit into the old music room to get the old rec room flooring and ceiling done.Eventually the 14 X 24 rec room will serve as the new music room and I'm hoping that will be big enough for my 33 guitars,14 amps,5 keyboards and piles of related gear as well-if not,I will have to get an extension built onto the house.Parting with any gear what-so-ever is not an option. When it's all done, the new big music room will contain only my musical gear,my stereo system and old vinyl, tapes as well as CDs.The room will also have several bookcases and they will be filled with my many volumes of books about guitars and rock biographies as well as literally hundreds of Guitar Player Magazines dating from when I first subscribed in the mid-70s and Guitar World from it's first issues in the early 80s until it became largely focused on metal. There are many other guitar oriented magazines included too, especially some of the better British guitar mags. Having a music room that's solely dedicated to music was my dream when we first bought this house 20 years ago-it took long enough to get around to it.
