New fretboard or use the old bit. The first fret to nut is completely missing and will need to be replaced. Luckily it broke off at the first fret, cleanly (ish)
Or shall I just replace the board???

New fret board will hide repair and stabilize the neck better.

Hmm thats what I'm thinking. It's not my guitar, it's a local lads that he smashed up.
Still, I'm using cascamite, you only get one shot with it, it don't budge when it's dry.

Thanks CV

There was a thread somewhere that had a commercial showing a baby destroying Jimmy Fallon's supposedly Gibson acoustic but a substitute non-Gibson was shown when the damage was done. It made me think about this thread, anyway too bad it wasn't a maestro or even a first act guitar, just saying.

sorry, not sure how to go about fixing it, but I would definitely wander over to the Epiphone forum and ask there. Those guys have a LOT of experience with broken headstocks.

did you find out the whole story of how it was broken? Just curious. I had mentioned something about this once or twice.

You're kidding Jim.

I'd relish a Firstact bit of class.

+1

That's the only chance to at least restore the guitar's functionality. Cosmetically, the fracture will still be visible on the reverse side of the neck but it should still fret and play acceptably.

I've done a few, nothing this bad though.
I repaired a Les Paul for someone, and got paid with a headstock broken tradetang LP JR.

No joke the person that had previously tried to repair it used Gripfill and drywall screws. I've gotten good at masking the joints. I'll hide this scarf joint easy enough.

This was that Tradetang, note the two close scarf joints

I had to break it in order to repair it. I didn't take many photos. But after I fixed it, I gave it to our singer, he likes it.

This is the repair that earned me that Tradetang. Not quite Ceri standards but in keeping with the rest of the guitar.

Is his "day job" a brain-surgeon gig at the local hospital?

I honestly don't know. The person who paid me with it bought it broken with the attempted repair for £5.
It's those scarf joints on it, being so close together. Thats what gets me.

In this case, you should probably just scrap the guitar. You could buy a used one of those for the price of the repair.

Here in the colonies that's probably true. But across the puddle it's a different story. There, that guitar probably costs eight or nine hundred bucks new.

I wouldn't waste the money on repairing that but if someone's willing to pay to get it repaired is guess new fretboard and titebond should do the job.
