Stratocasters love Ernie Ball strings. Trust me...

As far as acoustic, I have had great luck with D'Addario 80/20 bronze.

Strings are a case of whatever you like the feel and sound of. Personally I use Ernie Balls Super Slinky or Regular Slinky.

I'm sure others will chime in with their preferences.

Edit: Ah butchA has pipped me to the post on the Ernie's.

I use all D'Addario strings, but ya it's up to whatever you like best. It's fun to try something new each time you change them for a while.

I like Fender 150's and run them on all my Fender guitars.

When I was just a young lad the man who inspired me to take up guitar told me not to buy D'Addarios so I never did. Then about 10 years ago or so I bought a box of D'Addarios to save a few bucks and they had an issue that has prevented me trying them again. Each set I put on had 1 or 2 strings, usually the B or high E in which the string would consistently go flat in a short amount of time. This is not about new string stretch out. I would re-tune and it would go flat again within a few minutes. At the time I thought it was peculiar that it always stayed in tune for a minute or so and then in a few seconds went flat by just a hair under a half step. The first time it happened I kept checking the tuning post to see if it was my bad, not wrapping the string around the post properly but each time I checked I saw no evidence of slippage. Then suddenly the string popped out of the bridge. I thought it had broken but I saw the coloured ball end on the floor. The way the string was wound back over itself was either loose or not long enough. It kept slowly unwinding under tension. After the 3rd set I took the remainder back and got a refund and went back to the Fender 150s. It may have been just a bad batch and I bought a whole box from the bad batch. Other folks seem to like them but the experience was enough I never bought them again. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

It should be noted, D'Addario has had a problem with people out there selling counterfeit strings. Those may very well have been fake D'Addarios. Here's some info on how to tell the fakes from the real deal:

Thanks for the heads up, Mike.
Just got me a new bookmark on my browser.
I think I'll order a couple sets just out of curiosity.
They're a tad pricey though but if you say they're worth it then I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm all about paying a little extra for quality.

Those are some pretty subtle differences.
I would never take the time to memorize that and scrutinize each package in the shop just to save 75₵. My time is worth too much to me to spend it agonizing over a few cents. I'll just stick with what I know is good.

However that is a very interesting idea. Thanks for posting it.

in my case, those just happen to be the strings I like best, I never saw it as a bargain hunting thing. I do like that they are based in NY too.

Up until the past year I had been using D'Addario .008 - .038s for over 30 years but last year I switched to Reverend Willie's Texas Lottery .007 - .038 strings,I buy them from http://www.stringsandbeyond.com and I pay just under $60 for 12 sets, and that is the total price of them shipped to Canada.I find the Rev Willie's strings absolutely fabulous for bending and longevity-if they're good enough for Billy Gibbons, they're good enough for me.

Stratocasters tend to sound best with .12's.-.13's. Find the brightest pack of those available.
