In the end there are only two genres of music. Music I dig, and music I don't. Ya dig?

Um, I want to say Metallica, or the dark horse Jethro Tull did, maybe both did, or neither. I don't know off hand. What's your point anyway? :?

because the Grammies are the ultimate authority on genre boundaries and musical quality

That would probably be considered hardcore. What do I know, though? Hardcore is pretty much where punk stopped being good music, imo. If you listen to that initial wave of punk (NY and British along with bands like The Stranglers) and then the initial wave of hardcore the musical differences are very obvious and jarring.

If you take genres for what they are. Industry labeled terms. Then the bands I stated originally ARE post punk. Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure, Joy Division, even Elvis Costello and The Police, ect. That is the label they were given by the industry. Hardcore has been trying to cling to punk for a long time. Calling itself all sorts of things trying to retain ties with it. Mainly because it's awful.

Thanks TKOP. Hardcore punk then? or just hardcore, music? I thought that hardcore punk included straight edge punk bands like these Boston madmen

the singer Springa relocated to Chi-town after his original band slowed down so I see him now and again with his revamped SSD band (Springa Sonic Droogs). We opened for them this past March at The Mutiny. Hope I don't get bammed for saying this but much of hardcore is hard to listen to, for me anyway, not being critical just saying.

When I say hardcore I mean what most people consider Hardcore Punk. I don't consider it punk.

Boston blows and always has blown. It's a bunch of asshat jocks and militant straightedge wangs. Lots of racism, lots of sexism, lots of homophobia. New England just sucks.

Spitboy is hardcore punk. Hardcore punk is punk. Being straight edge does not make it hardcore, and they do not have to be straight edge to play hardcore. See: every heroin addict scumbag in NOLA that tried to play hardcore and ended up helping create sludge.

I thought Spitboy might be hardcore punk, glad to see that they are.

I just prefer good ol' 90's Pop/Punk

Punk's not dead, but it's for sure not as alive as it once was back in the 70s-90s

Nowadays you have kids on YouTube getting famous for turning a song that was meant to say F%$# the system to an acoustic/collaboration, in order to become rich.

I still don't think genres should describe certain music, In my mind you're either a rap/hip-hop artist, a rocker, or a pop star.
Even Country isn't country anymore, that's a different animal in itself. But.... lets just listen to music :P
