My 19 year old daughter was out looking to buy a guitar to learn to play on. A salesperson at a big box guitar store told her she should buy a high end Gibson. To quote my daughter "he told me that all beginners want a squire or MIM fender to learn on it is so cliche." My daughter laughed at the guy and asked to speak to his manager about what she considered the stupidest sales pitch she had ever heard. She ended up buying a Fender MIM start and g-dec amp from a different store. I laughed at the thought of somebody selling guitars would think that any guitar in thier store is cliche.

The cliche part of that is the salesperson trying to make more $$$ on your daughter rather than giving her the guidance she need to make a good buying decision. Good for her for getting it from a diff't store.

'Hope the salesperson is not an elementary school teacher. Could you not hear it?

"Learning the ABCs and 123s is so cliche a way to learn to spell and do math."

In this oulde and crabby opinion, the MIM Strat, Tele, P and J are some of the best instruments and instrument bargains on this planet and likely the entire solar system.

I have a MIM Strat........has served me well for years.......it's a great guitar. Should she decide she wants a higher end guitar in the future......then she can just add to her collection.

People who bag on MIM Fenders are plain silly. For the money I'd say they are an incredible value.

This kinda happened to me when I was deciding which Strat to buy, and I was told that I should buy an American Standard instead of the Highway One that I wanted. I did buy my Highway One from them, but I was kind of mad that they tried to make me change my mind about which one I really wanted. :? :? :?

Perhaps the guy works on commission, so since Gibsons and Epis tend to cost more, there would be more of a commission. Whats cliche is a salesperson trying to talk someone into buying something more expensive so that they'll get a bigger commission.
