$500 Marshall iPhone Speaker

A $180 speaker jacked up 3X for the name.
Business as usual I guess.

that's got to be the worst price on the 'Net for that item, even the Apple Store has is for $100 cheaper....

Marshall Stanmore Bluetooth Speaker
$399.95

http://store.apple.com/us/product/HE057 ... US-KWG-PLA

I think $180 is even pushing it. A JBL Flip can be had for around $100. That's one expensive Marshall logo.

If you've bought the Marshall refrigerator you simply must have that iPhone speaker!

Of course, you know it costs sooo much to manufacture those things to justify the prices. :P

I would love to buy Marshall, but when a Bluesbreaker is $2,500 and a Bassman is $1,500, I start to wonder who they're marketing to, because it certainly isn't anyone with budget constraints.

Huh? Adjusted for inflation, the $2500 Bluesbreaker is cheaper than what it used to be.
But yes, they likely have a bigger profit margin on that amp than most others, because there are enough Clapton fanbois who'll pay a premium.
And it's not like you have to buy a Bluesbreaker anyhow - there are plenty of more affordable (and, in my opinion, better sounding) Marshall amps.

Also, a good $500 and more on that Bluesbreaker is US import duties and international shipping.

Here on the Forum we often hear people complaining that Fender products cost more outside the US because of export costs and duties. Worth remembering that those factors work just the same in both directions.

Anyway...

I love my Marshalls, as the five I own testify. They're fabulous guitar amps. For amplifying other kinds of device, such as phones, I strongly suspect there are better and more cost-effective ways to go...

Cheers - C

Is this also limited to 100 pieces in North America?

Oh, absolutely. Marshall and Orange are my favourites - and old Vox ones too (not new Vox, though).
The 1962 reissue Bluesbreaker isn't my favourite though - it's certainly a great combo amp, but personally I'd prefer the $600 cheaper JVM205C, even if they were the same price.

I'd think for iPhone/iPad, and buying an expensive external speaker with sound quality in mind, you'd want one with AirPlay instead of Bluetooth, precisely because AirPlay has higher audio quality.
Or better yet, a receiver that can do both, hooked up to nicer speakers.

I'm quite frankly surprised that boom boxes with Bluetooth/Airplay/WiFi instead of a tape deck or quickly-incompatible dock haven't appeared yet.

Arjay

Ya got me.

Guilty as charged.
In my own defence, though, the price of the fridge was only double, not triple or higher.
And I needed a fridge for the studio and it matches the decor.

I was only kidding about the fridge, Matt.

And in all fairness, it looks to be a pretty useful piece of studio "equipment".

Art, I have the JVM210h.

I can promise you this mate, the 1962 is in a different universe. The only reason I kept the JVM is the programmable switching. And the midi capabilities that I'm planning on exploring

I read down through 11 reviews of the Marshall Bluetooth amp and each and every one of them was gushing with praise almost to the point of hyperbole.I guess that as with Marshall amps, you are paying not for the name but for quality components and talented technicians putting these components.I am amused by people who always insist that you are paying for the name but they are ignoring the fact that it was higher cost and higher quality components and a higher paid and more experienced workforce that went towards making that name and contributed to the higher costs in the first place. In most cases as with Marshall,Vox,Fender,PRS etc. that name was earned and since turning out a high quality product causes increased costs the higher prices are usually well justified.

Of course as has also been stated once products cross international borders, costs can rise considerably too due to differing rates of duties, tariffs, differences in monetary values etc. so there are several reasons why costs can vary so noticeably between different countries.
