It is said great minds think alike.

Considering my lack of mental horsepower, that doesn't bode well for either of us... :P

I have a TS9DX that has the Keeley mods done to it. I rarely use it because my favorite OD is the Mad Professor Golden Cello. Very smooth OD!

I have the same pedal on a long term loan too. I'm giving it back, not because it's horrible, but because I built better ones and don't need it. They aren't worth a bunch last time I looked. The TS 9 and 8008 are the one's worth some bucks. For me it was just okay, not great, not bad, just not my thing. I never saw what the big deal was about the Tube Screamer. JMO, YMMV

I think that most of the hype is hero worship. Jimi Hendrix and SRV used tube screamers, and there are people who think that by using similar equipment to their heroes, the skills will magically rub off.

I'm pretty sure JH/SRV/EC/EVH and most of them picked the effect boxes they did because they were available, and not because of comprehensive testing of everything on the market.

That's just plain wrong. I have gone through many OD pedals until I found the one that spoke to me and it's the ts808. Not because of anyone that used one but to me it sounds the best.

I watched a documentary called "Fuzz: The Sound That Changed The World" on Amazon Prime and it was truly fascinating. These boutique builders have no love for the Tube Screamer except for Rob Keeley. It's a great film and if you haven't seen it, it's worth a look.
