Given your chosen name, and that this is your only post, I suspect you're trolling.

When I got my first USA made guitar, my whole world changed.

I'd also look into the MIJ market. Absolutely wonderful instruments.

Depends on what color the Highway One is. If it's the Honey Blonde, I'd have to pick that. If it's one of those blue one's, I say go for the MIM Deluxe.

Its red with a white pickguard. i plan on changing the pickguard to a tortoise shell or something along those lines if i do end up getting it.

the mim is a sunburst or what have you with a black pickguard. it looks sexy! it has a logo very similar to the Fender std mia Fender logo. its really nice and its really a solid bass. but i think i would definitely be getting a better band for my buck if i got the highway. maybe i will just get them both. who knows lol

How in the world did you get out of his name and being his first post to be a troll. Seemed like a legit question to me.

It is a legit question. Funny but I got either an email or PM here recently, I forget which, asking about the American Special Jazz and the Highway One Jazz and I threw the MIM Special into the mix in my reply. This might be the same person.

My experience owning a Highway One Jazz (version 1) was less than stellar as it developed a truss rod issue way too soon and I hated the Greasebucket Tone Circuit. I suggested as an alternative to either instrument the MIM Deluxe P-Bass Special because it is more versatile for less money and I think maybe the best value in the entire Fender bass line. I'd rather have the MIM P-Bass Special than another sketchy Highway One or an American Special which pretty much is an all American made version of a Highway One down to the Greasebucket tone circuit which I find not to my liking at all.

My only beef with the P-Bass Special is the ugly color/pickguard combos. They are screaming to be revamped. Seriously that should have already happened because they are possibly the ugliest color combos in the Fender line. Great value, but ugly color combos with that gold guard.

I could have thrown the MIM Deluxe Active Jazz into the fray, but I really think the P-Bass Special is more versatile tone-wise and hence a better value even if uglier.

If one of the options offered had been an American Standard Jazz then my answer would have definitely been the American Standard Jazz. I don't think the American Special Jazz represents as much value for the dollar as the American Standard Jazz or the MIM Deluxe P-Bass Special and I hate the Greasebucket on a bass.

MY USUAL RANT RINSED AND REPEATED: The Greasebucket has a place maybe on a Stratocaster or Telecaster where it can help eliminate muddiness when rolling off highs to give the guitar a midrange honk. But on a passive bass I don't want a treble cut control that also cuts the bass. Cutting bass and treble leaves you with midrange. If you looked at my graphic EQ settings you would see I boost highs and lows and cut the midrange! The LAST thing I want is boosted mids on a bass and if I want the mids boosted I will tweak the EQ. Cutting bass on a passive electric bass when you roll off the treble on the instrument just fights against what I'm trying to do. I find the Greasebucket for bass to be a paradox.

Seriously my Highway One was so bad I could not in good conscience recommend one when there are better tonal options.

Since you are the one who's going to be playing it,it would be best for you to try out both. I'm not being sarcastic or anything but the majority of people may suggest one guitar and you may buy it based on their advice and after a few days, find that it's not at all what you want.Having said that,I've never been a fan of active pickups and I have always preferred the classic Jazz Bass sound-it has always sounded so great to me that putting in active pickups would be gilding the lily.

I actually ended up getting the mim deluxe. come to find out its a 2001 and the thing is in immaculate condition. i cant even find a light scratch on it! It sounds amazing, plays really nice. I did some truss rod and action adjustments and i got it right where i want it! I was originally leaning strongly towards the highway one. but i just cant get over how easily the paint rubs off on them. hands down i made the right choice. the price was right and everything just felt right, so i went for it. the one thing i like about the highway one over the mim is the badass bridge. other than that. i think i made a good choice
