Recorded this track over the last couple days. I'm in week 4 of 6 in the Intro to Music Production course and I'm trying to use some of the things from class in recording and mixing this.

Interested in any comments on the mix as well as guitar. Keep it real, I can take it. I'm really trying to get better at recording.. so much to learn! Thanks in advance to anyone who checks it out, much appreciated!

I believe you've achieved Tanlightenment. 8) That was just awesome.

Not sure what you need help with.

You apparently have the technical aspect or recording and mixing down fairly well. Most of the rest is very subjective.

In this particular recording you back off on the accompaniment abruptly to make room for the guitar melody. Did you experiment with fading the accompaniment slowly or leaving it in the mix at a lower volume?

I think it was originally even more abrupt at that part but it could have ended up smoother for sure. I will listen closer to that section and try out keeping it low in the mix to see what it sounds like. Thanks for the suggestion!

On mobile, so not hearing it in the greatest way, but nice ideas and riffage. How do you like the class so far?

Well I hope you can, because I am going to tell it to you like it is - it's a very nice, cool little number, great playing, and the mix is fine. Deal with it.

What kind of class? How do you like it?
What kind of recording? At home?

Class has been great. A buddy of mine signed up too, he has more experience and dropped it cause it was too basic for him, but it is perfect for me. The basics are exactly what I need to learn. Submixes and aux tracks were totally new to me and the last week has been covering dynamics effects like compression which I new very little about. Thanks agaion for the reference Mike! :P

 Seriously thanks for listening spacewolf, I always appreciate the support bro. That was more meant for those that tend not to comment on stuff they don't like. Its good to know what others hear standing out after you listen to something too many times and keep tweaking settings to no end.

It's a free online course called Introduction to Music Production. Mike posted a link to it a while back and I think few people here signed up. Lots of good info in this course. It's mostly using the DAW for recording editing and mixing. This isn't the first one, the may do it again:

If they cover hi pass and lo pass filters it will give you a
lot of new ideas in both pre and post production.

Good luck - sounding really fine!

Thanks Mike! Ha - good timing, this week is filter and delay effects. Pass and shelf filters were real cool to learn about, instantly got me thinking about some things to try out. :D

They do a good job of demonstrating the concepts using white noise or tones and then move into musical examples to reinforce the ideas.
