I am wanting to get a humbucker guitar, but I am torn between getting the Kurt one (I am a HUGE nirvana fan) and the lp standard. I know that they are different, but it would be awesome if somebody could run me through the main differences and pros and cons. Thanks!

The Jag has Dimarzio pickups, so it's automatically better.

Well, for one, a Les Paul has a set neck, and the Jaguar is a bolt on. I imagine the wood used might be different, too. I don't know for certain on what has what, since I haven't researched that aspect of them both. Different hardware, too. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges, because even though they might have humbuckers, it's not the same type of guitar.

The funny thing is he probably never spent $1000 on his guitars (like his signature model.) These were pawn shop specials picked up because they were cheap.

I know both guitars and i prefer the Jag. But that's really a question of personal taste, and that's just mine. If you can try both guitars, it's the best way to take a good decision.
And take in account too that within the price difference between the two, you can buy lots of other stuff. But if it's the most expensive that please you the most, go for it.

These are two VERY different guitars from soup to nuts -- both are very nice, though. I am assuming you must have played them. What did you think?

The LP has more "thicker", body sound, a little bit more comfortable neck (the jag neck is that fat, baseball fender neck - depends on the hands too ofc) and is considerably more heavier than the Jag too (which i hate). The pickups on the LP are great for cleans and drive, but i prefer the Jag for drive. Dimarzios in this particular model are great for distortion (not so much for overdrive. For that the LP would be better) and if you know how to compensate the general lack of "body sound" of the Jag, you can get amazing tones as well.

What do you mean by "body sound"? But thanks for your input, this was very helpful. I'm leaning towards the jag since I can already get great clean tones with my strat, but I want so something with some real crunch

Cobain Jag has a 7.25 radius neck but I don't know about the thickness.

The Jag is a Fender which is awesome; the LP is a Gibson which is... not as awesome! 8)

Well, i'm not american or english so i'm kind of having a hard time on finding the right expression for you. I meant to say a more "full-bodied" sound. You understand?

I never play guitar. Yet, I heard the sounds play in both guitar. Also, I became a fan of Nirvana before. I really like their song all apology but I like the sound given by Les Paul standard. Sounds are neat in les paul standard compare to Kurt Cobain Jaguar.

I think you'll find that the Les Paul's strings won't be jumping out of the bridge saddles at the most inopportune moments. The Jaguar and Jazzmaster are notorious for that phenomenon.

That only applies to the old models like MIJ and American Vintage Jags, which have the traditional Jaguar bridge. Recent models like the Classic Player or the Kurt Cobain Signature have an "Adjusto-Matic" bridge, which is basically a copy of LP's Tune-o-Matic bridge. Check the specs and pictures. So, they are exactly the same in that point.

Cheers!

I played a KC Jag once, and I really, really liked it a lot. The tone was great, and the neck was extremely playable. The only things I did not like about it were the finish and the price.

And a slight correction, the fingerboard radius is 9.5", not 7.25".
