What's the best blues forum out there ? I was surprised to see that the most active was a German forum!

Unfortunately, Blues (as an art form) is currently lacking in appreciation here in the US.

Since the untimely death of SRV, many/most new/young blues guit-slingers hold him in high regard (as do I) and attempt to replicate his sound, style and image (which I DO NOT DO, nor do I encourage others to do so) creating a tidal wave of retreaded second-generation wannabes. (Vaughan-a-bees?)

There are notable exceptions--Gary Clark Jr and Jason Elmore come to mind--but everybody 'round these parts is tired of the SRV imitators and waiting for the next generation to get traction and start another Blues Revival. I keep hoping the two gentlemen I mentioned are the catalyst for that...

It's way past time for it to happen.

Thanks a million folks for your comments ....
Rival sons ... a new band to me ... sound great ! Thanks !

Screamin' Armadillo: you're right .... Actually i'm still stuck in the 70's and before when it comes to blues .... I agree with you ... we need new talent with their own signature style.

I've seen Gary Clark Jr en passant when watching the crossroads vids... Jason Elmore also has a cool sound!
Cheers

There was a blues forum I took part in a few years ago--it was small, but fun, however gradually it died.
The guy who ran it merged it with somebody else's forum, and that one wasn't too bluesy--so eventually we all faded away.

I forget the name of it.

I like the Blues more than any other type of music, and I see it's influence in many other genres of music. Bands like Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Steve Miller, ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Gary Moore, Tab Benoit, even Satriani, Megadeth, Priest, Van Halen, let's not forget the Beatles, and many, many others have a lot of bluesy type songs. Believe it or not, in the 60s, Fleetwood Mac was a Blues band, with Peter Greene on guitar. And of course, Jimi Hendrix.....wow! :D

The emotion that it can bring out, the "soul" if you will, and mainly the fact that most of the songs are fairly easy to learn and play without a huge amount of skill or talent, are some reasons that I like the blues.....a lot!

It started way back before any of these bands, Elvis and many before him, like Robert Johnson, others that span the decades include John Lee Hooker, Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Joe Cocker, Willie Dixon, Otis Span, Shakey Horton, Honeyboy Edwards, all heavy blues guys. I'm sure the list is probably bigger for blues artists than any other music's artists.

"Damn Right I've Got the Blues.....from my head, down to my shoes"

I re-read my post--I don't want anybody to think I don't like SRV (I love his music, although I'm more apt to play like his big brother than him)... I just think the imitators took over blues for a while, and a new crop of originals is more than due.

Interesting. Can certainly hear all the obvious influences in there.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Not withstanding the fact that SRV was fierce player, it had a lot to do with his guitar voicings. Same for Clapton. It's a mystery as to how he EQ's his gear to get that guitar to sing and sustain the way it does without really sounding overdriven and gritty.

[e.g. CD of George Harrison's Japan Tour..."If I Needed Someone. That' got to be one of the most incredible solos I've ever heard Eric play. It's definitely a one-off because I've heard other replays of that song done on other nights on the tour and was never the same.]

IMHO the best of the SRV spinoffs which had a uniqueness of its own remains to be Arc Angels. I never tire of returning to their music. I expect that's the reason why Bramhall figured so strongly with Eric for a time. Bramhall and Sexton had great chops.

I agree 1000%

I never considered the Arc Angels to be Vaughan-abees. Although Bramhall (and Sexton for that matter, too) could have cloned Stevie's licks, they (consciously or not) came to the table with originality, style and fire.

The Arc Angels are one of my favorite bands...and Double Trouble's next project (Storyville) ranks up there in my book, too....all of the individual players in those two groups are amongst my favorite players.

It pays to listen very carefully to the way they interplay their instruments, they way they utilize effect, and particularly the way Bramhall constructs melody and the chord structures and patterns he employs. Clapton and King covered two of Bramhall's songs in 'Riding With The King", and you can hear those characteristic even in their performance of same. That's originality!

Blindman's Blues Forum maybe?

No.
I do remember it was guitar centered--but my main point was that they tend to not last or stay small.

Which is too bad.
I love the blues.
