This thread doesn't really have a point, i guess just random musing. I recently became part of a production crew. I used to have a public access TV show and through those connections (after the studio closed) just recently became one of the cameramen for a local Tampa production crew. It isn't my full time job just another way to make some scratch and keep my video skill up.

I have gone to see concert throughout my life but just went, saw then left as a spectator. Being part of the crew that goes early and sets up, sits in the back eating at the craft table beside bands and roadies alike and seeing all different levels of production really opened my eyes to the vast difference but also the sameness to concerts. Some like STP have done this stuff so much it was all automatic while other younger bands still mingled and shook hands and hung out. The roadies all basically had the same look (not saying this in a derogatory way)... tired.

Last night and tonight i am shooting the local Whigfest ( http://www.whigfest.com/ ) i put the link just for general info i am not a promoter or anything like that. These are all smallish groups that have a following. I didn't know any of their names but as the last 3 events have taught me... I am out of touch with what is popular current music. It is always cool to see the different things artists bring to the table. Unique sounds and unique styles. I don't always like the music but always see or learn something from it.

I think that has been missing from my guitar playing, i think being a bedroom hero has hindered my growth immeasurably. I need to get out and start playing with musicians to actually grow. I am a fairly gregarious fellow but have guitar fright in that i have NEVER played with anyone else which causes me to be shy in that regard. I worry that anyone i play with will consider me so Amateur that i would be wasting their time.

But i digress, it has been awesome working my $@! off for little or no pay as the video guy... met some cool bands, watched a bunch of cool bands (on down time when someone covers your camera I stand on stage behind the equipment and watch with other bands and promoters just to check out the acts) and god forbid learned a little from each experience. As stated at the beginning this thread doesn't have any meaning just wanted to share and hopefully give some fun crazy stories in the future. i love being behind the camera.

Get out there and do it! You learn more about being a musician in twenty minutes on a stage than you do in a month of playing in your bedroom.

Cool story ZB, I was a cable access cameraman for a few years and agree that you learn something about that business every time you put on those headphones lol.
