To All It May Concern;
It is with a bit of sadness that I must announce that I am going to have to leave the site. I am not leaving music,though,...I will continue with my lessons and such.
Without going into a lot of details,my main reason for having to leave and say "good bye" is that I can no longer put up with the "tone snobbery" that takes place on the "Modern Amplifiers" board, and the slamming of modern amps,...especially the Hot Rod series of amps,...by two members in particular,...I won't mention any names,...they know who they are. I
don't want any hard feelings,...but I am 'done' with the tone snobbery on that board,...I have had enough!

Bye All

Bye!

For the record, I would be proud to own a HRD or Blues Deluxe. And I thoroughly enjoy my modern Mustang V half-stack!

There are almost 550,000 members of this community and you're leaving because of 2 of them.

Just sayin'.

Here's a hint: click the * Magic Happy Button ... even if I am one of those two.

(* - It's that little "X" icon at the bottom of every post)

"BMW-KTM" Is right you know. Like channels on a TV. If you don't like a program, the hell with it!

I goofed up there.

The X icon is for deleting your own post if nobody has posted after you.
I guess you still have to go to their profile and "Add Foe".
I thought we had a shortcut for that at one time.

Or just acppect that you don't get along with everyone and not everyone will get along with you. Everyone here has different opinions.

If you don't like the conversation, just leave the thread and don't concern yourself with it. Don't get caught in an eternal conversation with people you don't care to talk with.

Maybe I should leave because I might be a tone snob. If I left because somebody slammed some gear I owned I would have been gone five years ago. i even still own a 72 CBS three bolt big headstock Strat. I got all kinds of grief about that on many forums. I didn't whine about it. As long as I like it, I don't care. Think about it, every popular musician is or was a tone snob from Buddy Holly to Hendrix, SRV to Beck, Clapton even John Mayer. Many people here call them as they see them. You either learn from their experience, grow a thicker skin or move on. I belong to photography forums too and if you think we're bad, try listening to someone who is an amateur photographer telling you your brand new three thousand dollar camera body is a POS. No one here personally insulted you, they disagreed with you. They are opinions based on experience period. It an amp, it's not one of your family members. Do what you gotta do. It's a shame you might have learned something here. By the way, the comments about the HRD series amps were well earned. Go to www.thefenderforum.com and do a search on them. We were a lot kinder here. Those amps were "improved" because of the tone snobs that had enough of barely reliable amps. You should be thanking the tone snobs.

Perhaps those offending cretins were actually reliability snobs.

In any event......

I haven't had the chance to interact with you so I'd be lying if I said I'll miss you. However, I hate to see this. People being bullied off the board by the elitsts that hang out here. In principle you should stick around just to screw with people like that, but hey. That's just me. As far as amps.

The Fender Hot Rod Deville and hot rod series of tube amps is pretty awesome, imo. I spent years gigging with a guitarist who ran an Aerodyne Tele through the HR Deville 410 combo. Got some of the drippingest, sickest thick tube tones I've ever heard. Really quality stuff. He just moved out of state, and the guitarist we have who replaced him runs a Marshall tube stack. Not even a comparison. The Hot Rod Deville has ten times the tone. Anyone who knocks that series of amps should get their ears checked, imo.

Look at it this way. Opinions are like a$$holes. Message boards are full of them.

Leaving because of 2 people's opinions is kinda funny to me. Maybe you will find somewhere that everyone on the board will agree with you but I doubt it so good luck with that.

Ears checked out? i should have had my ears checked out before I bought mine. And by the way, nobody bullied anyone. Some people are just whiners when you don't agree with them and feel the need to defend their purchase. I did the same thing on thefenderforum. There was no love for that amp there. Everything they said was a flaw with that amp happened to me. Three times on stage and others at home or rehearsals. If I would have listened to those guys back then, I would have looked at other amps like they suggested. All I know is I bought that thing after forty years of great service with Fender products. I was and am seriously disappointed in the new production stuff. So much so that I learned to build my own stuff. But don't pull the bullying nonsense, that's just ridiculous. We disagreed with him. We didn't call him any names or personally attack him in any way. On top of that, there is a Foe List that can be used. I have several people on mine. It's easy. Then you won't have to read the big, bad bullies comments.

Those amps do have dependability flaws. However, they certainly have no flaws in the tone department. I know after more than 4 years of ownership and over two years of heavy gigging our guitarist had issues with blowing fuses for a bit. He took it to the local guy who has been fixing tube amps for decades and day and a few bucks later he had zero problems again. Did you have a problem getting a good tone out of your amp?

Yep. The clean was decent, but the drive channel was horrible. Tube changes helped a bit, but then all the reliability issues kicked in. It wasn't just fuses, it was stuff like bad solder joints on the tube sockets, a blown filter cap, the 5 watt resistor took a dump and the list just keeps going. I finally got it fixed for the last time, and shoved it in a closet until I finally sold it with full disclosure to the buyer and the balance of the warranty. Those drive channels were like an icepick in the forehead. I have no use for unreliable gear. Reliability is even more important to me than tone. Tone you can work with, change a speaker, adjust the bias, try different tubes, but when an amp spends a lot of time in the shop, it has to go. I work with a lot of musicians who had similar issues at the time. I sat in with my friends band and used his HRdlx and it took a dump near the end of the set and got some of the nasty distortion. He's a keyboard guy who doubles on rhythm guitar. It was a bad solder joint on one of the power tube sockets, a real common problem with the II series.

I have no problem with modern amps, just unreliable amps in general no matter who makes them.
