This shouldn't be as hard as I am making this out to be. I am turning 40 this year and plan on treating myself to either a new amp or a new guitar. However, I can not make up my mind which to get. I already have two guitars and two amps.

Which would you do, a third guitar or third amp? No I am not getting both. Well, not at the same time anyway.

Ummmm... flip a coin? Judging by your list you've already got some nice gear. Depends on what you're looking for? Is there a vintage amp you've always wanted? Perhaps you can find one, or a nice reissue? Same argument for a guitar. Sorry, I'm not much help. :? I hit 40 myself later this year. Whichever way you decide to go. Treat yourself to something nice and good luck!

If it helps, I'm between a Gibson LP Traditional Pro and a Deluxe Reverb.

I'm not in a band. I just enjoy playing.

Depends what the two guitars are and what the two amps are and what the third guitar/amp would be. Right now we don't have enough information to form an opinion.

Yikes. That's a hell of a choice. You really can't go wrong with either. I'd probably go with the Deluxe Reverb, but that's me. Good excuse to hit a bunch of nice stores and try some out until you get that "ah-ha" moment, maybe? Band or not doesn't really matter. As long as you have fun with it! Treating yourself to a fine piece of gear should be part of that. If you can, make the shopping and choice part of the fun maybe? Good luck!

Personally, I like to have more guitars than amps.
But I'm at a loss to why you ask your question. Are you really going to base your decision on what people here say?

I ask because I am on the fence on which to get and looking for opinions, thoughts and a persuasive argument as to why I should get one over the other. No I will not use the forum to make up my mind. This is merely an excersize in gear discussion. Truth of the matter is I want both and will ultimately buy both. Just not at the same time.

Maybe the better question is which would you buy first if you already own two guitars and two amps?

My bad, I'd gone into the user control panel and switched off the option to display sigs. Now I have the full facts before me I'd say what's really missing from your setup is a good acoustic. If that's not where your head's at right now then I'd say grab the Les Paul with both hands.

I'd invest in an assortment of pedals. Or some recording gear. Or an acoustic guitar.

You've got a nice single-coil guitar and a nice humbucker guitar. A nice big amp and a nice small amp. You've got those things pretty well covered. So I'd branch out and cover the other things first, then next year start deepening the amp/guitar collection.

I'm not interested in an acoustic at this point. I use to have one but always found myself going back to the electric. As far as pedals go I'm covered from a boss me-50 to all the individual pedals I need. Fulltone, mxr, ehx, etc. I can get additional pedals whenever as they are small purchases in comparison. I'm looking to spoil myself a little for my 40th bday.

To me, the Les Paul hands down. It is just a classic "everyone needs one of these guitars" guitars. Besides, your PRS is pretty different from the Les Paul. I have three humbucker guitars, and they are all VERY different in how they play, feel, and sound. Yes, the Les Pauls are a bit pricey, but ... they are very nice and hold their value. You already got two amps. And if not now, then when?? When you are 60 maybe?? Get the Gibson Les Paul.

Also, Guitar Center is closing out new (but 2013 model) Les Paul full-blown Standards at only $1850 for the Desert Burst or Cherry Sunburst. What a screaming deal that is ... You can thank me later.

I can't vote because if it were left up to me, I'd buy neither. I only post to comment that I think it's a shame when people say they're not interested in an acoustic guitar. It actually saddens my heart to hear (or see in this case) people express that sentiment. I guess one man's food is another man's poison. If I was being forced to sell every item of gear I have except for one piece, I would keep my beloved acoustic.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Don't get me wrong BMW, I love the sound of an accoustic guitar. Just not in the market for one right now.
