I know there don't seem to be much love for dod's in general especially the Grunge. But I found some mods to do to it and did a few that didn't require replacing anything. All I had to do is remove 2 components. With just these 2 simple mods made it made the pedal sound sooooo much better. im think about taking my boss DS-1 off for it.

DOD GRUNGE MOD

REMOVE C19. YOU DON’T NEED TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER COMPONENT OR ADD A JUMPER.
THIS ADDS MIDS AND GIVES A FULLER TONE.

CHANGE R16 TO A 1K RESISTOR. THIS LETS THE PEDAL CLEAN UP WHEN THE GAIN IS TURNED DOWN.

CHANGE R19 TO A 22K RESISTOR.
THIS MAKES THE DISTORTION A BIT RICHER WHEN CRANKED.

NOW CHANGE C24 TO A .0047CAPACITOR. THIS MAKES THE ‘HIGH’ KNOB AS MORE LIKE A HIGH KNOB SHOULD.

THIS CAP IS POLYSTYRENE, WHICH IS THE ‘HOLY GRAIL’ OF FILM CAPACITORS. EXTRA CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN SOLDERING AS THESE ARE MORE HEAT SENSITIVE THAN OTHERS.

CHANGE D2 TO THE SMALL YELLOW LED.

Here's A link to the mod with A few pictures. All I did was removed C19 and I did the same thing the person in the link did and just removed D2 without replacing it with A yellow led.

I greatly miss my old DOD FX40B 7-band EQ pedal...it died a few years ago, and I haven't found another EQ pedal that did what that one did for me...

Loved the Grunge pedal... Tried it out in a local music store in FL where i lived when they first came out in the early 90s and had to have it. So I saved up the loot but when I went to buy it, they had sold it. Ended up buying the DOD Metal X. That was a cool pedal as well. Could dial in a good muffish tone and get some decent Gilmourish sounds. Wouldn't mind picking up a Grunge pedal though for poops and grins.

I love the one I have. I think it is a great pedal. I've seen some of the digitech reissues for pretty cheap. I never picked one up but, in the future if I spot another one for cheap, I would like to try your mod out on it. I'm not going to mess with the one I have now because, I like the way it sounds already. I have a DOD issue.

I used to have one, I sold it and I regret it. I've got an original one on my watch list on my local trade site :)

Loved the tight distortion I got from it..

In all honesty I like the pedal stock I just figured id try to mod it and im happy I did I think it came out better. There is a used one at a music store close to me im think of picking up its only going for 25 I would leave that one stock. I like a decent bit of the dod stuff.

I picked up another one used not too long ago. If I get bored enough, I may try the mod. It would be cool hearing an actual sound sample before getting stupid with it. The only modded pedal I have is a Boss BD-2 with a basic Monty Allum mod on it. This thing sounds far better than the stock issue. That is saying much because the stock issue sounds very good just out of the box.
